Role Overview: The Company is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Legal Department. Reporting to a Senior Director, Legal Counsel, you will provide corporate commercial contracting support to the retail businesses, including the Company’s grocery banners (Loblaw, Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, Provigo, Maxi), Joe Fresh, and T&T Supermarket. Loblaw has adopted a hybrid working model. For this position, you are required to work a minimum of four days per week in one of three offices (downtown Toronto, North York, or Brampton) with a minimum of one day a week in the Brampton head office. What You'll Do: Provide the business with counsel on various legal and regulatory frameworks that apply to the marketing and sale of consumer products, including consumer protection laws Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements Provide the business with counsel on strategic initiatives, projects, and transactions Identify risks and propose practical business solutions to address legal issues Provide guidance to, and liaise with, external legal counsel, as needed Work closely with other members of the Legal team to continuously improve templates, processes, and create efficiencies Develop and update legal policies and procedures Participate in the development and delivery of annual team objectives Be an active participant within the Legal team, including participation in committees of interest Personally demonstrate and foster within the Legal department a culture of excellence that reflects Loblaw values What You'll Bring: 3-7 years of commercial contracting experience in an in-house legal department or a large law firm Experience with consumer protection laws and/or supporting the in-house legal department of a large consumer-facing business is an asset Experience in technology law and ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial and technology-related agreements is an additional asset Strong business acumen, analytical, communication and presentation competencies Demonstrated ability to work with multiple stakeholders, facilitate consensus, and build relationships Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive with the ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, and fast-paced team environment Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario At Loblaw, we respect the environment, source products with integrity, and make a positive difference in the community.
