Our client is a well-established Ontario-based grain trading, handling, and export company with multiple operations across the province. The business merchandises corn, soybeans, and wheat, with a specialized Identity Preserved (IP) soybean program supplying premium export markets. As part of continued growth, they are hiring an Assistant Grain Merchant to support the procurement, export sales execution, and risk management associated with the company's IP soybean portfolio. Reporting to Commercial Leadership, you will: Source and contract Identity Preserved (IP) soybeans from producers and elevators across Ontario. Build and maintain grower relationships to secure consistent quality and volumes. Negotiate purchase contracts aligned with market conditions and program requirements. Market and sell IP soybeans to international customers, with a focus on premium Asian markets. Develop and execute export programs, including shipping logistics, documentation, and quality assurance coordination. Monitor customer specifications and ensure contracts are executed in full compliance with requirements. Track global soybean markets, currency movements, and freight conditions to inform trading decisions. Manage price risk exposure using futures, options, and basis strategies. Provide market insights and commercial updates to internal stakeholders. Ensure adherence to non-GMO and IP protocols throughout the supply chain. Partner with quality, logistics, and documentation teams to meet export standards. Support audits and certifications required by international customers. Your background includes: Post-secondary education in Agriculture, Business, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 2+ years of experience in grain merchandising, trading, and/or export markets. Working knowledge of commodity markets, hedging strategies, and risk management practices. Experience negotiating and managing international trade contracts. Familiarity with export documentation, logistics, and IP certification protocols (an asset). Excellent relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills. Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple contracts and deadlines. Comfort working with grain trading platforms, Microsoft Office, and ERP systems. Willingness to travel to maintain and develop relationships with customers and partners, both domestically and internationally.
