Overview The Third Party Residential Underwriting Division provides underwriting expertise to financial institutions for the Canadian Mortgage Broker channel. In this role you will report to the Assistant Vice President, Third Party Residential Underwriting and manage a team of Mortgage Underwriters, Associate Mortgage Underwriters, and Mortgage Funders. Your leadership will guide the team in assessing mortgage applications, ensuring compliance with underwriting policies, reviewing documentation, and advancing funds while delivering service excellence. Responsibilities Establish and maintain positive relationships with mortgage brokers to build loyalty to the Company Maintain positive relationships with external partners such as mortgage insurers, appraisers, title insurance companies, and solicitors Generate new business opportunities through existing referral sources to help achieve company sales targets Make lending decisions within established limits while ensuring adherence to policies and guidelines Complete management reporting as required Stay current with latest industry knowledge, competition, and market trends Manage the capacity of the team through efficient delegation and monitoring of volumes Manage performance of team members through ongoing feedback and coaching Establish performance and work standards Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new employees as required Provide coaching, training, support, and development to team members Lead team meetings and conduct annual performance reviews Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure AML requirements are met, when applicable Experience & Qualifications Post‑secondary education and/or equivalent work experience preferred 3–5 years of previous mortgage underwriting experience required 2 or more years of people‑management experience Completion of Mortgage Agent Course and/or FSCO License an asset Demonstrated ability to: Analyze information and make confident decisions Build client/customer relationships Create a team environment Give constructive feedback Lead and motivate others Set and communicate goals Coaching, feedback, and development of individuals and teams Build and maintain positive relationships Service excellence orientation Resolve conflict Strong communication skills—both written and verbal Strong analytical skills Organizational and time‑management skills Team‑player mindset with a desire to mentor others Effective problem‑solving and decision‑making skills Competency in basic PC software and Microsoft Office applications Ability to manage pressure in a high‑volume, tight‑turnaround environment Working Environment & Physical Demands Office environment with periods of high volume and tight timelines Long periods of sitting and prolonged keyboard/mouse use Extended computer screen time Multi‑tasking may include speaking to customers on the phone while accessing information on a computer program Why Join First National?
