Project Manager 1 - Aircraft Operations - Various locations BC Hydro Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada Base pay range CA$107,000.00/yr - CA$135,300.00/yr Job location Coquitlam, BC Employment type Permanent, Full‑time (37.5 hrs/week) Number of positions 1 What you’ll do Supports key aircraft operations department (AOD) functions and provides aviation‑related technical and safety advice to internal and external parties, in support of BC Hydro’s aircraft‑operations program. Provides support to key aircraft operations functions; consults on aviation‑related job planning and BC Hydro aviation work procedures, advising on aircraft operations processes. Collaborates across business lines to deliver results. Provides rotational coverage of the AOD ‘Flight Desk’ in direct support of BC Hydro’s ‘Flight Approval Process’: administers pre‑approval of flight bookings, performs flight risk assessments, approvals and activity coordination for daily operations involving charter helicopters, fixed‑wing aircraft, and drones. Available for after‑hours stand‑by coverage, weekends, holidays, and shift work. Acts as project manager for low‑risk, medium‑impact projects or task manager for higher‑risk projects to improve department or program effectiveness. Exercising independent judgment in analyzing and solving highly complex problems with a defensible approach. Coordinates work, provides instruction and technical guidance; reviews work in progress and assesses completed work for accuracy, results and quality assurance. What you bring Minimum 2 years of experience in helicopter operations (aircrew, operations support, or management) **or** Minimum 2 years of drone operations experience, including thorough understanding of CARs RPAS regulations and being an advanced‑drone‑certified pilot; or offset by formal RPAS post‑secondary education. High school diploma or equivalent. Working knowledge of rotary‑wing aircraft, fixed‑wing aircraft, RPAS, Canadian Aviation Regulations, and WorkSafe BC occupational health & safety regulations related to aircraft operations. Proficiency in using Nav Canada’s Aviation Weather Web Site (AWWS) and interpreting meteorological products such as GFA, METAR/TAF. Understanding of Aviation Safety Management System principles and value. Independent thinking, good judgment, and problem‑solving skills. Self‑starter with ability to produce results independently or as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Well‑organized, able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Advanced English language proficiency (written and spoken). Business‑level proficiency in: Microsoft Word (advanced), Outlook (intermediate), Excel (basic), PowerPoint (basic), Adobe Acrobat DC (beginner). Experience with Microsoft SharePoint is an asset. Additional preferred qualifications Experience as Operations Manager, Base Manager, QA Manager, Chief Pilot, Training Pilot, SMS Manager, or Safety officer. Working knowledge of commercial helicopter operators under 702 ‘Aerial Work’ or 703 ‘Air Taxi’. Familiarity with Utility Aviation industry best practices. Commercial Rotary‑Wing Pilots’ License with 5 years of experience in a commercial helicopter service. Commercial Fixed‑Wing Pilots’ License with 5 years of experience in a commercial fixed‑wing service. RPAS (drone) Basic or Advanced Pilot Certificate. Knowledge of drones/remotely piloted aircraft systems and related CARs Part IX. Knowledge of physical and electrical hazards in utility flight operations, including circuit voltage identification. Proven project‑management knowledge, PMP® designation or project‑management courses. Bachelor’s degree or higher. What we offer Minimum of 15 paid vacation days.
