Reporting to the Snr Peace Officer / Program Manager, the Community Peace Officer will be responsible to provide awareness and enforcement of Municipal District Bylaws and Provincial Statutes. Specific Accountabilities Community Peace Officer Participates in the enforcement of the following legislation: Municipal District Bylaws Traffic Safety Act Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Part 9, Division 2 Highway Development and Protection Act Dangerous Dogs Act Gaming and Liquor Act Petty Trespass Act Trespass to Premises Act Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Reduction Act All other Acts and Regulations as appointed Makes lawful and reasonable, use of powers afforded the position and maintains a constant awareness of the problems and risks associated with the discretionary use of such powers. Patrols rural road, provincial highways, and communities to prevent and detect offences; issues warning and violation ticket where necessary Responds to inquiries, complaints, or requests for assistance from M.D. residents in a timely manner. Enforces load restriction orders, road bans, and Road Use Agreement conditions. Prepares court briefs and presents evidence in court as required. Performs animal control as needed. Priority is to be assigned to dog control, especially when situations of aggressive dogs, or strange behavior and/or danger to public safety are identified. Enforces all MD bylaws as needed. Maintains a current status with respect to changes in legislation and regulations pertaining to the position. Maintain an effective working relationship with all local enforcement agencies and participating in joint projects when beneficial and approved. This position includes working weekends and other unsociable hours on a, as needed basis. This position includes a “on call” expectation, on a, as needed basis. Will perform other duties as required. Education and Certifications High school diploma – Required Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License (as a minimum) – Required Successful completion of the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) – Required Successful completion of the Community Peace Officer Induction Course or training equivalent – Required Be eligible for Community Peace Officer Level 1 appointment under the Government of Alberta Peace Officer Program – Required Possess valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) – Required Standard First Aid and CPR - Asset Abilities and Experience No criminal record and not a subject of criminal investigation – Required Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office programs, with the ability to independently create and edit a variety of documents and spreadsheets – Required Experience in policy development and working with elected officials – Asset Experience with GIS systems – Asset Excellent social, communication, and relationship management skills – Required Ability to work well under pressure, individually and as part of a team – Required Salary Range: $44.72 - $58.85 per hour, dependent on qualifications and experience.
