Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications – Ontario, USA Join Speechify as a Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications and help make reading accessible for millions. Over 50 million users turn PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio, enabling faster, more effective learning. What You'll Do Lead design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications (Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and, when needed, C++). Define and enforce best‑practices for Windows desktop development—architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross‑version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability. Drive accessibility: integrate and validate support for Windows accessibility APIs (UI Automation, etc.), ensuring keyboard navigation, screen‑reader support, and usability for users with disabilities. Collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders on feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the long‑term Windows roadmap. Own full feature lifecycle: conception, design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance, ensuring quality and reliability. Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, or compatibility problems and propose robust solutions. Ideal Candidate Required 3+ years Windows desktop development (Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML; plus native code such as C++/Win32/WinRT/COM). Deep understanding of interop between managed and native code. Track record of shipping production‑quality desktop apps focused on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a commitment to accessible software. Solid software‑engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multithreading/asynchronous programming. Leadership experience: designing, mentoring, code review, architecture decisions. Excellent communication skills and collaboration with cross‑functional teams. User‑centric mindset for polished, intuitive, accessible experiences. Preferred / Bonus Automated UI testing experience (unit, integration, UI automation). Desktop performance optimization (memory, startup, rendering, high‑DPI, responsive under load). Localization/globalization, right‑to‑left UI, internationalization, multi‑region accessibility. Telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, error monitoring. CI/CD, release pipelines, deployment strategies for desktop apps. Long‑term ownership of feature areas, refactoring, and technical debt management. What We Offer High‑impact role shaping the future of our Windows product.
