Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Visualization Software Engineer to lead the design and implementation of interactive interfaces for data exploration and visualization. You will work with computational scientists, biologists, and other engineers to create performant, responsive, and scalable software solutions that enable scientists to develop hypotheses and insights from large, heterogeneous datasets. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the cutting-edge of data visualization and interactive data analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement interactive interfaces to explore, visualize, and analyze scientific data.
- Solve complex problems related to data visualization and interface design.
- Develop highly performant, responsive, and scalable software for large datasets.
- Collaborate with computational scientists, biologists, and engineers to meet the needs of our scientific community.
- Support software development efforts across distributed teams in the US and Canada.
- Contribute to the open-source community through software development.
Required Qualifications:
- BS or higher in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, or related fields.
- 5+ years of experience (including graduate school) in developing tools for interactive data analysis and visualization.
- Expertise in modern JavaScript (ES6) programming.
- Strong experience in developing web applications using frameworks like React, Vue, or Svelte.
- Proficiency with JavaScript data visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js).
- Expertise with high-performance web-based visualization technologies (e.g., WebGL).
- Experience in accessing and visualizing large datasets.
- Strong skills in integrating with and consuming APIs.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, for deploying web applications.
- Ability to work in the Eastern or Pacific Time Zone.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in data visualization and information processing principles.
- Experience building and deploying APIs.
- Familiarity with UI design best practices, user-centric design, and iterative design processes.
- Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including version control and testing.
- Experience with data wrangling, processing, and analysis in Python and/or R.
- Experience building interactive data applications in R and Python (e.g., Shiny, Streamlit).
- Knowledge of WebGPU and biological domain knowledge, especially in single-cell genomics.
- Familiarity with formal build/release/deploy and continuous integration frameworks.
