Assistant Plant Controller

Assistant Plant Controller Work Location: In person Full Time – Permanent  **Manufacturing experience is required**  The Assistant Controller will serve as a key member of the Finance leadership team, supporting the Vice President of Finance/CFO in overseeing the Company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control environment. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information and in supporting strategic decision-making across the organization. This position is designed for a finance professional seeking progressive responsibility and offers a defined career path toward the Controller role as the organization continues to grow and evolve. The Assistant Controller role offers a clear pathway to the Controller position within the organization. The selected candidate will receive mentorship from the Vice President of Finance/CFO and gain exposure to corporate finance strategy, system transformation initiatives, and potential merger and acquisition activities as part of the company’s long-term growth plan. Core Responsibilities * Own the month-end close process: GL reconciliations, accruals/prepaids, cut-offs and timely close. * Prepare and review month-end/quarterly management packages: P&L by segment, key variance explanations. * Ensure compliance with the company’s accounting framework (ASPE) and government filing and reporting requirements. * Oversee BOM accuracy, labor and overhead allocation, machine/hour rates, inventory valuation and other cost accounting activities. * Supervise the finance team, team development and performance. Day-to-Day Activities * Supervise daily postings in the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations. * Review and approve journal entries, accruals, intercompany transactions, and expense allocations. * Maintain accuracy of trial balance and subsidiary ledgers throughout the month. * Approve payment batches and verify that internal controls (authorization, coding, supporting documents) are respected. * Review daily bank balances and cash forecasts. * Partner with plant managers to review production data and variance root causes. * Generate management reporting packages: P&L by product line, margin analysis, working capital, and KPIs. * Support VP of Finance in board or executive deck preparation (graphs, commentary, analysis). * Support VP of Finance with borrowing base reports and covenant compliance for banks. Key Competencies * Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. * Drives strategic initiatives with a focus on execution and results. * Leads teams while fostering growth and development. * Collaborates effectively across departments. * Solves problems with strong analytical insight. * Balances priorities with urgency and focus. Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA designation strongly preferred. * Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment (aluminum, metals, or related heavy industry experience preferred). * Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP/ASPE and cost accounting principles. * Demonstrated success in managing accounting teams and closing processes within a multi-site organization. * Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent) and advanced Excel skills. * Positive attitude and self-motivated, with a willingness to perform outside of their job description * Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.  Physical Effort/Working Conditions    * Use of PPE as required in a production environment when required.   * Standard schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; weekends off. * Primarily on-site office environment but may require standing and walking throughout the day. * Industrial environment with noise, heat, and operational hazards. Benefits: * Company events * Company pension * Dental care * Disability insurance * Employee assistance program * Extended health care * Life insurance * On-site parking * Paid time off * Stock options * Vision care * Wellness program Language: * English (required) Signature Aluminum Canada Ltd is an equal opportunity employer.
