Wound and Ostomy Resource Nurse

We are hiring a Full-time or Part-time WORN Nurse to work in the Hamilton/Burlington area
As a member of the Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) Team, provides primary specialty wound management and ostomy care with a focus on client / family education, clinical support and consultation to care providers, and educational presentations for staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct health and clinical assessments of clients, identifying priorities of care with the client and other members of the interdisciplinary team based on analysis of assessment
- Provide primary care and education to clients requiring specialty wound management and/or ostomy care.
- Proactively identifies, promotes and seeks to improve client safety as part of their everyday work.
- Working with the NSWOCC Therapy Nurse, develops an ongoing plan for clients who require wound and /or ostomy care
- Provide education and preceptorship experiences in order to build wound care and ostomy knowledge and capacity within Saint Elizabeth Health Care
- Provide consultation to care providers within the organization
- Facilitate the dissemination of wound care and ostomy knowledge
- Assess and recommend appropriate wound care and ostomy supplies
- Identify nursing trends and issues related to specialty wound management and ostomy car
- Assist in the development of information tools and educational initiatives for care providers
- Identify "best practices" in WOC nursing
- Promote and participate in research-based practice
- Identify potential research initiatives
- Promote and participate in research projects.
- Submit case studies for publication
- Participate in conferences through poster presentations or oral abstracts.
- Assist NSWOCC Nurse and Associate WORNs in development of posters and case studies for conference presentation
- All other reasonable duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be an RN with current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Extensive education and/or experience in specialized wound care is preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in wound care and ostomy care is required.
- Flexibility and a commitment to advancing wound and ostomy care at Saint Elizabeth Health Care is required.
- A willingness to participate in further education programs/courses such as the required. Preceptorship Program and Interdisciplinary Wound Care is required.
- A vehicle and valid driver's license and a willingness to travel are required.
- Excellent communication and teaching skills are required.
- A comprehensive knowledge of community health care is preferred.
- Demonstrated teaching skills and expertise in preparing effective teaching tools and methods are preferred, if not a willingness to develop in that area.
- An ability to use computer word processing, power point, email, and source information on the internet is preferred.
