Director of Health, Mental Health & Addiction Full-Time Regular Saskatoon, Saskatoon, SK, CA 2 days ago Requisition ID: 1242 Salary: $120,582.00 Annually POSITION TITLE: Director of Health, Mental Health & Addiction DEPARTMENT: Ministry of Health, Mental Health & Addiction CLASSIFICATION: MGEX-02 SALARY RANGE: Starting at $120,582.00 Per Annum POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Permanent ACCOUNTABLE TO: Deputy Chief Infrastructure Brief Overview Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Infrastructure (DCI), the Director of Health and Mental Health & Addiction (HMHA) will provide leadership and guidance in the development, planning, and execution of multiple, complex programs projects distinctly for Métis Citizens. This role supports and aligns with the ministry’s distinctions-based plans, the Minister’s mandate, and the overarching vision and mission of the Métis Nation–Saskatchewan. The Director will establish and maintain strong partnerships; collaborate and align across MN–S; ensure fiscal accountability; oversee effective operations; identify funding needs for projects and programs; conduct research and analysis; develop strategies to secure funding; lead proposal development; and ensure programs and projects adhere to internal financial controls and comply with external funding agreements. This position is based at the MN–S office in Saskatoon, SK. Key Responsibilities Lead and implement distinction-based planning, work plans, and budgets for the full health continuum, including mental health and addictions. Provide strategic leadership in mental health promotion, harm reduction, trauma‑informed care, and culturally grounded wellness initiatives for Métis Citizens. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including communities, health authorities, service providers, and funders. Foster a psychologically safe and positive work environment by motivating and supporting employees, promoting clear communication, and ensuring effective information sharing. Deliver regular briefings to the DCI and MN–S Minister of Health and Mental Health and Addiction. Promote awareness of MN–S governance, including the Constitution of Métis Nation–Saskatchewan. Identify and mitigate financial, legal, operational, and reputational risks across HMHA portfolios. Provide solutions‑focused recommendations to the executive team on program development and risk management. Oversee performance planning, evaluation, and career development to build a high‑functioning, results‑driven team. Develop and oversee both annual and five‑year budget plans, ensuring completion of quarterly variance reports in accordance with MN–S financial and operational reporting cycles. As part of the leadership team, develop clear ministerial policies and procedures aligned to MN–S policies. Maintain adherence to funding agreements and established internal financial policies and procedures. Formulate, review, and manage program funding proposals to obtain essential resources. Ensure clear communication, engagement, and collaborative consultation with the Minister’s assigned portfolio. Ensure effective, accurate, and timely execution and delivery by guiding and managing the teams, providing subject matter expertise, exercising judgment to solve complex problems, and monitoring/reporting progress against expected results and outcomes. Perform other duties as assigned by the DCI. Knowledge and Skills Understanding of provincial and federal health systems, mental health and addictions frameworks, and distinctions‑based approaches for Indigenous populations. Knowledge of trauma‑informed care, harm reduction principles, culturally grounded wellness models, and community‑based health strategies. Familiarity with Métis Nation – Saskatchewan governance structure, constitution, and Métis culture, language, and heritage. Knowledge of budgeting, variance reporting, funding agreements, and risk mitigation strategies. Expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating health programs and services. Awareness of legal and legislative requirements related to health, privacy, and funding compliance. Ability to interpret health data, research findings, and prepare reports for decision‑making. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and familiarity with project management theories, principles and practices. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred). Minimum of ten years in a senior‑level leadership role within health, mental health, or addictions sectors that exemplifies transformative and collaborative leadership by inspiring and engaging teams through open communication, transparency, and shared vision. Fosters an inclusive, positive, and psychologically safe workplace where each member feels valued and empowered to contribute fully. Demonstrates a steadfast commitment to achieving outcomes rooted in distinctions‑based approaches, while building trust, motivating excellence, and supporting collective growth across the government. The incumbent will demonstrate a clear pattern of professional and personal development. Proven experience in developing and executing distinctions‑based plans, budgets, and operational frameworks. Experience building partnerships with communities, health authorities, service providers, and funders. Demonstrated success in securing funding through proposal writing and managing funding agreements. Experience in performance planning, employee development, and fostering a positive, psychologically safe work environment. Experience working with Indigenous communities, applying culturally safe practices in health programming. Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and lead organizational change effectively. Additional Requirements A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation to our downtown location would be required. The successful candidate must undergo and provide MN‑S with an acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. The Travel requirement for this position is less than 25%.
