Reporting to the Chair, Inuit Languages and Culture Programs, the Manager, Inuit Arts Programs upholds the College’s commitment to enhancing traditional Inuit methods in arts, fur production, and design, while advancing cultural preservation and fostering Inuit arts-based economic development. The incumbent is responsible for the development and delivery of the Jewellery and Metalwork and the Fur Production and Design programs at Nunavut Arctic College. The Manager oversees all academic and administrative aspects of these programs, including budgeting, program planning, staff supervision, faculty support, student recruitment, and student progress monitoring. The position also ensures the proper functioning of Fine Arts studios, equipment, and tools used for instruction. The Manager provides leadership to faculty and staff, supports learners, responds to program inquiries, and prepares recommendations for program improvement. The role involves developing program delivery plans, writing proposals, evaluating course effectiveness, coordinating facilities, and promoting the program. The Manager stays current with Inuit arts-based industry practices to ensure programs remain relevant and aligned with cultural and industry needs. The Ideal Candidate will have a Bachelor of Education or a degree related to Fine Arts, Design, or Fur Production, along with three years of instructional experience in Fine Arts or the arts industry and one year of supervisory experience. A Master’s degree is an asset. Experience teaching in a northern context is preferred. Knowledge of curriculum development, human resource management, Inuit traditional and contemporary arts, and Nunavut’s culture and communities is required. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a more representative workforce so it can better understand and serve the needs of Nunavummiut. Priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit. Candidates must clearly identify their eligibility in order to receive priority consideration under the Nunavut Priority Hiring Policy.
