Reporting to the Director, Parks & Special Places this position is responsible for the implementation of the Nunavut Agreement (NA) and Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA) as they relate to Territorial Parks and Canadian Heritage Rivers. This position leads the development and planning of Nunavut Parks and Special Places Programs and System Plan with co-management partners. The incumbent develops and manages a system of Canadian Heritage Rivers in Nunavut. The incumbent will develop territorial parks and special places legislation and regulations, discussion papers, business plans, cabinet submissions, and policies. Responsibilities of the position are delivered in accordance with the NA, the IIBA and in support of Government policy and direction, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles and the departments/division's vision and mandate.
The knowledge and experience required for this job are usually obtained through a completion of a Degree in a field from a recognized university, such as Environmental Studies, Physical Geography, Landscape Architecture, Recreation, History or Museum Studies, or other relevant studies. A minimum of five (5) years' experience coordinating and organizing within one or more natural resource management or environmental planning agencies is required, which can include operations, program management and project management or other relevant experience. Knowledge of the Inuit Impact and Benefits Agreement for Territorial Parks (IIBA) and the Nunavut Agreement (NA) is an asset.

In keeping with Article 6.3 of the Umbrella Territorial Parks Inuit Impacts and Benefits Agreement "… special consideration" will be given to the following:
- Fluency in Inuktitut.
- Relevant northern experience.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.
