Position Court Officer S/C - Permanent and Fixed term contract The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Regional Commander of East Region are seeking qualified individuals to join our team. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will manage court case files for a Detachment, provide liaison services with the court, and monitor the progress of files through the court system. You will also provide court security services for the detachment and court and participate in the escort of offenders. Locations Lanark County Detachment - 75 Dufferin St, Perth K7H 3E3 Lennox and Addington Detachment - 86 Advance St, Napanee K7R 3Y5 1 permanent, full-time position (Lanark County) 1 - one-year fixed term contract position (Lanark County) 1 permanent, full-time position (Lennox and Addington) Note: In addition to successful completion of the interview process, candidates selected to move forward are required to undergo mandatory requirements of psychological evaluation, background investigation and security clearance check. Candidates who have successfully completed these requirements will be invited to attend ten (10) weeks of in-person training in Orillia. All mandatory requirements must be completed prior to assignment to a team. These positions have no remote work options. The eight municipalities policed by the Lanark County Detachment are Mississippi Mills, Perth, Carleton Place and the townships of Beckwith, Montague, Drummond/North Elmsley, Tay Valley and Lanark Highlands. The County of Lennox and Addington stretches from Lake Ontario to the Canadian Shield, with a population of over 45,000. About the job You will manage court case files for a Detachment, providing liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. You will also provide court security services for the detachment and court and participate in the escort of offenders. What you bring to the team Mandatory requirements Ability to pass an OPP background/security investigation including a psychological assessment Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent), college diploma or university degree (or equivalent) Ability to attain and maintain Special Constable status Ability to pass and maintain ongoing certification in Use of Force Must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or permanent resident status and legally entitled to work in this country Communication and Interpersonal Skills Knowledge of relevant sections of legislation, such as the Criminal Code, Young Offenders Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Family Law Act, provincial offences and municipal by-laws to coordinate court proceedings, prepare briefs and other court documents. Oral communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with Judges, Crown Attorneys, defense lawyers, police officers, and the public. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Ability to interact with prisoners to ensure cooperation during escort and court proceedings. Problem Solving and Decision-Making Ability to assess documentation requirements and follow up on missing or incorrect paperwork. Initiative to identify and resolve issues, such as scheduling conflicts or prisoner attendance errors. Decision-making skills related to day-to-day case management and document processing. Safety and Security Awareness Knowledge of processes and procedures for prisoner search to conduct searches of prisoners and persons taken into custody at court proceedings. Knowledge of basic prisoner care as prescribed by policy to attend to and escort persons in custody. Knowledge of relevant sections of WHMIS and workplace safety to take DNA samples and escort prisoners. Administrative and Computer Skills Proficiency in application software programs to prepare, update, and maintain records. Written communication skills to compose and prepare court-related documents. Organizational skills to coordinate and track documentation and case file arrangements. Don’t meet every qualification?
