JOB SUMMARY


The Director of operations is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, including the elevator and seed plant, farm, agronomy, trucking, and repair and maintenance departments. The position collaborates with the team to ensure the operations' safety, efficiency, profitability, and sustainability.


RESPONSIBILITIES


The Director of Operations relies on internal and external expertise and will work collaboratively to achieve the following:


Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize operations in collaboration with the integrator, aligning with organizational goals and market demands.


Asset Management : Oversee the management of all equipment, land, and buildings to maximize productivity and minimize costs.


Operations: Oversee the yearly, quarterly, weekly, and daily planning of all the activities required to manage the operations.


Crop Management: Oversee crop selection, seeding operations, spraying operations, and harvest operations to ensure high yields and quality production.


Budgeting and Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets, monitor expenses, analyze financial data, and implement cost-saving measures to enhance profitability.


Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on agricultural regulations, permits, and certifications, ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards. Educate and train the team on regulatory compliance.


Supply Chain Management: Oversee delivery/pickup from suppliers of inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, and manage delivery/pickup to buyers for product distribution.


People Management: Recruit, train, and supervise farm and plant operations staff, fostering a positive work environment, providing guidance, and facilitating professional development opportunities.


Technology Integration: Identify and implement innovative technologies and farming practices to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance crop quality.


Risk Management: Identify potential risks such as weather events, pests, or market fluctuations, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks to business operations.


Sustainability Initiatives: Develop and implement sustainable farming practices to conserve natural resources, minimize environmental impact, and enhance the long-term viability of the operations.


WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH:


  • Proven progressive leadership experience in building highly productive and engaged teams.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Business Administration or Management, or other as deemed relevant for the position.
  • Experience with the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) would be a great asset.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship building skills.
  • Strategic thinking abilities, who can analyze data, think critically, solve problems, and make well informed decisions.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible to continuously changing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Budgeting, financial analysis, and business management principles competencies.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and environmental stewardship practices.
  • Knowledge of market trends and consumer preferences in the agricultural industry.
  • Knowledge of farming practices, crop production techniques, and agriculture technology is desirable but not required.


REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Flexibility to work extra hours and weekends during peak season.
