IT Analyst II - Data Engineer Alberta Health Services Overview The IT Analyst II - Data Engineer will work provincially within Data Integrity and Integration (DII), Cancer Advanced Analytics (CAA), Data & Analytics. The efficient use of big data within the healthcare system promises to revolutionize healthcare, improve patient outcomes, and drive the knowledge base of medicine forward through artificial intelligence, machine learning and real‑world evidence. As the IT Analyst II you will be part of a team of technical analysts, data analysts, and subject matter experts who support a future‑ready, integrated Data Environment for Cancer Inquiries and Decisions (DECIDe) within CCA. DECIDe, a first‑of‑its‑kind system in North America, will become the cornerstone cancer data environment in Alberta, enabling streamlined access to real‑world cancer data from clinical practice, research, quality improvement and patient sources in a single environment. Technical skill and business acumen will be essential to gather end‑user requirements, support their development, build the infrastructure, and maintain the environment. Responsibilities As an IT Analyst II you will provide technical support related to information technology applications either directly to users of the systems or to service delivery functions. You will ensure reliable operations of information systems, resolve complex technical problems, find solutions to customer needs, and lead projects and program initiatives. You will handle advanced application, telecom, or technology support duties, investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex problems that have typically been escalated several levels before assignment to this position, translate business requirements into technical requirements for a solution, recommend a vendor approach, analyse the solution to ensure it fits both technical requirements and business needs, and spend time on project or initiative leadership and delivery. Required Qualifications Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to both technical and non‑technical staff. 5 years of work experience in analytics, data warehousing, and business intelligence or a similar environment. Experience with database development, SQL, Python, Oracle/MSSQL or similar on‑prem environments, Snowflake or similar cloud‑based environments, Coalesce/Informatica or similar ETL tools. Experience working with health data (preference for cancer‑related data). Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Preferred Qualifications Certification in specific data warehousing and business intelligence tools, ITIL foundations and project management. Experience with Snowflake, Streamlit, Coalesce, FiveTran, or Git/GitHub. Experience with dashboard development such as Tableau or PowerBI.
