The Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) is a leading and dynamic philanthropic organization dedicated to fostering positive change and community development in greater Edmonton. We are seeking an experienced and visionary professional to join our executive leadership team in the newly created role of Vice President, Community Impact.

The Organization

ECF is committed to building a vibrant city and enriching the lives of all Edmontonians. We do this by providing an average of over $33 million in community grants and scholarships each year, thanks to the generous support of thousands of donors. As the largest non-governmental funder of the charitable sector in our City, ECF is in a unique position to address long-term, complex community needs by working with donors, charities, volunteers, government and community partners.

The Opportunity

The Vice President, Community Impact is a new role that will lead ECF’s efforts to create meaningful and sustainable change within the communities we serve. This role requires a strategic and visionary thinker with a passion for community building, community engagement, and creating measurable impact. The VP, Community Impact will collaborate with internal teams, community stakeholders, and external partners to develop and implement initiatives that positively contribute to a vibrant and thriving Edmonton.

  • Strategic Initiatives:
    • Lead the execution of goals and objectives identified in ECF’s Strategic Plan relevant to your portfolio.
    • Develop and implement strategic initiatives that address identified community needs and align with ECF’s goals.
    • Work closely with the executive team to align strategic initiatives with the overall organizational strategy.
    • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of ECF’s Community Impact strategy which includes identifying and implementing approaches that support more strategic granting and areas of focus.
    • Ensure Community Impact strategies that align with ECF’s mission and goals.
    • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in philanthropy and grantmaking.
    • Where possible, leverage ECF’s full toolkit (grants, social financing, relationships, convening, advocacy) to develop innovative approaches to community economic development and resiliency.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Lead initiatives to engage with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, nonprofits, government agencies, and donors.
    • Develop and implement strategies to enhance ECF’s visibility and impact within the community.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships community partners for collaborative approaches to creating a vibrant and thriving community.
  • Research and Analysis:
    • Responsible for the evaluation components tied to ECF’s strategic plan.
    • With the support of your team and external consultants where needed, conduct thorough research on community issues, trends, and potential areas for investment.
    • With the support of your team use quantitative and qualitative information to guide decision-making processes.
    • Prepare and present research findings to the executive team and board of directors.
    • Ensure the ongoing development and enhancement of Key Performance Indicators, evaluation methods and approaches that support the community partners and donors understand community needs and the impact and importance of work ECF invests in.
  • Staff Management:
    • Provide leadership and direction to a dynamic and diverse team, fostering a collaborative, innovative and inclusive work environment both within your department and across the organization.
    • Mentor and develop staff, promoting professional growth and advancement.
  • Policy, Procedures, and Board Reports:
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures relevant to the portfolio.
    • Prepare comprehensive and informative reports for the board of directors, highlighting key initiatives, outcomes, and recommendations.
The Ideal Candidate

As the ideal candidate, you will have a university degree in a related field (e.g. public administration, social work, business administration) combined with a minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in granting, philanthropy, community development, or a related field; equivalent combinations of related post-secondary education and directly related work experience will be considered. An advanced degree is preferred. You will have a proven track record in designing and managing innovative approaches to support community needs and a strong understanding of the Canadian nonprofit sector and community foundation landscape.
