Role Overview The IT System Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers and network infrastructure. Installing hardware and software, participating in research to continuously improve, and keeping up to date with the IT business needs of the organization. The System Administrator will actively resolve problems with the computers, servers, and network equipment; collaborate with employees to troubleshoot, work with Scouts Managed Server Provider (MSP) to resolve issues to minimize work disruptions; collaborate with vendors to improve system performance and reliability. Duties and Responsibilities Manage and administer Azure Active Directory Hybrid environment, Microsoft 365 Admin Center (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, etc), Kaseya, BitDefender and associated apps working with vendors Setup, configuration, and standardization of end-point devices, including but not limited to, workstations, laptops, smartphones, printers, and peripherals Responsible for maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network equipment and servers Ensure systems are up to date by managing the deployment of software updates and security. Monitor and report on patch compliance to maintain system security and functionality. Manage Servers, Firewalls, Access Points, and other network devices to ensure optimal performance and security. Utilize Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) software to oversee and maintain systems. Installing, configuring, and supporting the client component of a variety of approved hardware and applications Ensure robust Backup and Disaster Recovery (BDR) procedures are in place. Utilize and manage backup solutions effectively, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and standards. Resolving user technical issues and service requests in a timely manner Logging all support requests and follow up details into an internal ticketing system Manage user accounts and hardware inventory Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing the impact of the issues. Work with broader IT team on desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved promptly with limited disruptions Research and advise administration of new technologies Design and develop solutions to complex application problems, system administration issues, or network concerns. Perform systems management and integration of enterprise systems, working with vendors as required Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications and Job-Specific Competencies 3 to 5 years of experience preferred Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience Certifications (Nice to Have): ITSM, Microsoft365, Azure, Cloud Networking, Desktop Support Nice to have experience with MDM technologies such as Microsoft Intune Strong knowledge of systems, hardware, security and OSI layer 1-7 protocols Ability to build relationships across a variety of levels in the organization PC, laptop, Server hardware troubleshooting experience Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to provide the highest level of support on technical issues to end users and coordination with vendors Strong diagnostic, problem-solving and analytical skills Strong team player and the ability to work independently Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment. Keen attention to detail. Ability to communicate technical concepts in user‑friendly language. Highly self‑motivated and directed Working Conditions This role is hybrid if you are based in Ottawa, ON. Clear PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) are required before the start date. Mandatory training requirement. Regular office hours – some evening and weekend work is required Physical Demands Sitting for extended periods of time Extended periods of sitting and computer use.
