Back to the Sea Society Board of Directors We are seeking directors with a passion for community and marine education to join the Back to the Sea Centre volunteer team and lead its strategic direction, governance, fundraising, and growth. Responsibilities Ensure the mission and vision of the Back to the Sea Society is upheld throughout all activities. Maintain sound financial well‑being and help plan, forecast, and monitor the society’s budget. Work directly with the Executive Director in the execution of the mission. Promote the society’s mission at appropriate opportunities and support events and operations. Participate in major fundraising initiatives, foster fundraising relationships, and draw on networks to support fundraising efforts when possible. Attend Board meetings, the Annual General Meeting each year, and important major events such as opening day and fundraisers. Creatively seek partnership opportunities with businesses, government, other non‑profits, and citizens. Serve on one of the two Board level committees (Internal Affairs or External Affairs). Dedicated, hard workers with fulfilling lives. Commitment Two‑year term, renewable. Approximately 2–5 hours per month expected for board duties depending on season, events, and cycles. Weekly email communications and 48‑hour response times from all board members. In‑person attendance at all quarterly meetings (video attendance can be set up when required but it should not be the norm). Internal Aff­airs Committee Assists the Society in planning and managing operational issues, including finances and human resources. Supports the Executive Director in recruiting, orienting, and performing board performance evaluation. External Aff­airs Committee Assists the Society in managing fundraising, communications, and marketing efforts. Plans, coordinates, and implements fundraising activities supporting programs, projects, and activities.
