ESAC represents major video game console makers, publishers, large and small independent developers as well as national distributors.


As the voice of Canada’s entertainment software industry, we work on behalf of our member-companies to ensure that Canada remains a great place to innovate, create and publish video games. We work with decision-makers on regulatory issues that affect our members at the provincial and federal levels; and, regularly conduct and publish original research highlighting the impact of our industry in Canada.


Vice President, Policy & Government Affairs

Based in Toronto or Ottawa

Requirements

Reporting to the President & CEO, Vice President, Policy & Government Affairs will:

• Develop policy positions in collaboration with ESAC President & CEO and in partnership with member company working groups;

• Work with the President & CEO and ESAC members to develop and implement government relations strategies that promote and protect industry interests;

• Draft policy papers, submissions, briefs and other materials reflecting ESAC membership interests

• Meet with key decision makers in government and appear before Parliamentary committees to discuss policy positions when required;

• Work with partner organizations and external counsel on legislation, regulations and government policies affecting the development, sale and marketing of entertainment software products, services and platforms in Canada, including intellectual property and copyright, international trade, privacy, AI, e-commerce, marketing and advertising, video game regulation, finance and tax incentives, immigration and skills development, etc.;

• Provide advice and support to the President & CEO on policy matters, work with ESAC’s PR and Communications team to ensure alignment between advocacy and public relations and actively participate in the execution of lobby day events;

• Work with the President & CEO on federal and provincial government relations matters, including traveling to Ottawa and the various provinces to meet with government officials as required;

• Represent ESAC at government and industry meetings and events in Canada and abroad;

• Assume other responsibilities as required.

Skills and Attributes

• Excellent ability to work in a team environment along with the ability to work independently in a remote setting;

• Ability to multi-task and/or pivot from one file to another as priorities shift;

• Excellent customer service disposition with an acute understanding of the critical importance of delivering value for the membership;

• Expert knowledge of government functions and of the legislative process;

• Experience analyzing legislation & regulations and identifying & understanding their potential impacts on the Canadian business environment;

• Excellent public speaking skills;

• Strong existing relationships with key decisions makers such as government officials, Members of Parliament, political staff, stakeholders, etc. is an asset;

• Knowledge about the video game industry is an asset;

• Legal training and/or experience is an asset;

• Bilingualism in English/French would be an advantage.
