Overview Chief Administrative Officer, University College (CAO) provides administrative leadership and strategic direction to operations and business administration within University College, reporting to the Principal. The CAO is responsible for financial, human resources, physical space and information technology standards, and for coordinating administrative services across the College’s internal units, including student advising and student life services for approximately 5500 undergraduate students, the Student Success Commons and the Writing Centre, residence and food service operations, the UC Library, four interdisciplinary academic programs, event spaces, and the Advancement unit. Education University degree in Commerce or Business Administration, or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience. A professional accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA) is an asset. Experience Five to seven (5-7) years’ relevant progressive experience overseeing the combined areas of human resources, space operations, finance, and information technology. Prior staff management experience in a unionized environment, with success mentoring staff and teams. Experience working in a cross-functional environment and administering complex financial and HR matters with various policies, procedures and collective agreements. Skills Demonstrated expertise in budget planning, financial management and control, and administration of budget and resources; experience managing operating and ancillary funds. Experience preparing financial statements for capital projects and fund accounting; ability to work with internal and external auditors. Strategic, collaborative, and communicative with the ability to work independently and as part of a team; self-directed and initiative-taking. Strong analytical ability to understand financial matters from multiple perspectives and to find optimal solutions in a consensus-building manner. Collaborative leadership style with the ability to foster relationships and excellent oral and written communication skills. Initiative, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to operate at high strategic levels and translate strategy into action. Experience in change leadership, leveraging new technologies, and problem-solving with sound judgment.
