LEGAL COUNSEL (Derivatives & Capital Market Transactions) (5+ Years’ Experience) Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (“HOOPP”) is one of Canada’s largest defined benefit pension plans. HOOPP continues to grow, both in size and complexity of its operations and investments, and is therefore seeking an experienced Derivatives / Capital Markets lawyer to join its legal department. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for providing transactional legal support to the trading desk, collateral management, securities operations and the tax teams on a wide range of capital markets investments, including derivatives, repurchase and securities lending transactions, fixed income and public equities, broker and other trading agreements, structured finance and secured lending, and will identify and manage investment legal risk based on applicable regulations and HOOPP’s risk tolerance. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with internal investment managers advising on global capital markets transactions. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Derivatives and Capital Markets transactions, gained at a leading law firm or as in‑house counsel, with at least 3 years of experience in private practice. The individual must be highly motivated, pragmatic and self‑confident with excellent communication skills, as this person will be engaging directly with HOOPP traders and other investment managers, HOOPP’s trading partners and industry stakeholders, and external counsel. Strong business acumen, good judgment and organizational skills and the ability to take ownership of matters are required to succeed in this role.
