About Helcim Helcim was founded with a mission at heart: to be the world’s most loved payment system. We believe that by offering small businesses in North America a decidedly human payment solution where it is easier to sign up and use while being transparent and affordable, we can empower them to grow and prosper. Simply put, helping small businesses thrive is at the very core of our business model, and we think that’s a great way to do business. From the very start, we knew that we wanted to be different from every payment processor out there. We want the merchants we serve to feel supported and see us as a trusted partner rather than simply just another “cost of doing business.” We are relentless in our pursuit to provide a radically transparent and honest payments solution that flat out saves business owners money, all while treating them like human beings. THE ROLE Helcim is seeking a Data Scientist to be a strategic partner in advancing our analytics capabilities. This role is a unique blend of deep technical work and high‑impact stakeholder collaboration. We believe that how we show up and enable the success of our data products is just as important as building something great. You will own the full lifecycle of our data products—from initial ideation and complex modeling to deployment, monitoring, and enabling business teams to maximize their impact. Your work will directly address some of the most exciting modeling challenges in FinTech, significantly impacting key business functions like fraud mitigation, credit risk assessment, and marketing optimizations. This is an opportunity to join a highly collaborative team of 10 (across data platform, science, and analytics functions) where you will have accelerated career growth and the chance to shape how data is used across all our operations. This is a hands‑on role where you will be empowered to drive results: Design, develop, and implement production‑grade data products that drive strategic business outcomes, from optimizing growth to mitigating risk. Partner with cross‑functional teams to serve as the data science expert and liaison, translating complex business problems into clear analytical requirements and providing actionable, data‑driven recommendations. Apply analytical techniques to optimize our growth and sales efforts, including providing the data and insights necessary for teams to effectively experiment on and improve conversion rates and optimizing spend for digital advertising campaigns. Develop and implement risk models to protect our merchants and Helcim, focusing on key areas like fraud and credit risk. Own the monitoring and ongoing iteration of deployed models, ensuring performance and alignment with business impact. Contribute to our MLOps strategy and partner with the Data Platform team to ensure data capture, cleanliness, and system development meet the high standards required for reliable, production‑ready data products. You are a proactive data professional with a track record of driving business outcomes through data products and a passion for engaging with stakeholders. Qualifications 2 to 5 years of industry experience in a Data Science or similar analytical modeling role. Demonstrated experience using statistical methods or machine learning algorithms to solve complex business problems. Experience collaborating on the deployment and full lifecycle maintenance of data products into a production environment. Proficiency in the programming languages of our analytics stack (SQL and Python) or other related languages. Proven ability to engage with cross‑functional and non‑technical stakeholders to gather requirements, communicate complex findings clearly, and drive results. Experience in consumer or business credit , fraud , modeling , or go‑to‑market/marketing analytics will be a significant asset. Experience with visualizing and organizing data through dashboards, charts, and reports (e.g., in Metabase). Experience with the following technologies: Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery Metabase or other business intelligence applications Data transformation technologies such as dbt Apache Spark or similar distributed computing platforms A proactive mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment, prioritizing iterative technical solutions to solve complex problems. Culture Being builders: We build things ourselves and we build them well. We use technology and our creativity to overcome challenges that would seem beyond the capability of a company our size. We improve what is already there, invent our way out of problems and we never stop dreaming of better. Choosing the harder path: We believe that the right decisions are usually the harder ones, so we embrace the challenge and endure when others quit. We choose what is difficult because it is more rewarding in the long‑term, and makes us resilient, so that we not only survive but thrive. Creating trust: We earn trust by striving to be our best selves every day and by lifting those around us. We recognize that trust is hard to earn, easy to lose and is tested continuously over time, so we make trust our way of life. Contributing to a company of many: We are stronger because of our collective passion, diversity, and fellowship. We believe only great teams can accomplish great things, and we ask the very best of each other. Together we create our own future. Benefits Health and dental benefits: via our Group Benefits, you’ll get access to dental benefits, extended healthcare benefits for drugs, vision, paramedical coverage, counseling, health service navigation, life insurance, critical illness and disability insurance, and more—all of which come into effect on Day 1 of employment. Dedicated Health Spending Account (“HSA”): an additional budget available for you to spend on health‑related expenses (e.g., eyeglasses, therapy). Maternity and Parental Leave: salary top‑up for birthing parents and a bonding break for non‑birthing parents. Stock Options: stock options enable our team to purchase Helcim shares at a future date at a specified price. Every team member, not just people leaders and executives, receive equity. Vacation Time: all team members get paid vacation time and a company break in December. Flexible work location: hybrid work schedule offers flexibility to work from home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Core hours give team members flexibility to manage other parts of their lives. Training: Helcim will cover 50% of the applicable training costs of up to $500 per year.
