The AVP of Procurement is a member of Aviva Canada’s Operations Senior Leadership Team responsible for contributing to the leadership of the Procurement and Corporate Services function, particularly in relation to matters impacting the planning, execution and ongoing management of the company’s third party supply base.

The AVP of Procurement supervises a spend across all indirect spend categories (IT and non-IT) and is responsible for developing, leading and implementing the strategy of the Procurement function, developing and implementing appropriate controls, process, policy and practices to ensure Aviva Canada improves its return on this investment.

The Procurement function services the entire Canadian market and support Aviva Group across all commercial aspects of the sourcing process from definitions requirement, sourcing strategy, supplier selection, contract execution, contractual commitment, vendor management, vendor transition and disposition.

The role requires the implementation of Aviva Canada’s overall sourcing governance, developing and leading the company’s supplier relationship management program, and coordinating with functional BU’s on their sourcing requirements and expectations. This role has significant interactions with executives and other key leaders in Aviva Canada. It is essential that this individual works effectively with these leaders to ensure they have a full understanding of the value Procurement can bring to their business function and the company.

This role acts as a subject matter expert for Aviva Canada contract disputes and negotiations. They are also charged with ensuring Aviva Canada acts with the highest levels of integrity in all dealings and relationships with suppliers.

What you'll do:

Support our VP of Procurement and Corporate Services with the re-design, staff, review and revise Aviva Canada’s Procurement operating model and ensure continued best fit for purpose

Lead the Procurement organization, develop and integrate the organization’s responsibilities across the wider company continually establishing and refining progressive sourcing, outsourcing and supplier management strategies and practices that enable the business to consistently deliver excellence to their customers

Build and develop the trust and confidence of key collaborators through interaction at senior levels, partnering with cross functional business leaders and their teams and gaining a proficient understanding of their lines of business and working practices

Improve ‘value for money’ on an organizational spend generating ongoing cost savings and avoidance through commercial standard process including competitive bidding, price negotiation, demand management and vendor consolidation

Develop and implement procurement standard methodologies in alignment to and while positively influencing applicable Aviva Canada and Aviva Group process and standards. Promote and ensure Aviva Canada’s compliance to these standards in all third party interactions, specifically supervising compliance to the Group Purchasing and Outsourcing Standard and actioning / raising any instances of non-compliance as required.

Represent Aviva Canada in procurement and supplier relationship management engagements with the wider Aviva group

Create performance indicators to assess capabilities and gaps across the function, address the same and provide mentoring, training and staff development to consistently raise the performance and value proposition of the function

Develop and implement effective Supplier Relationship Management practices throughout Aviva Canada across supplier financial management, contract management, relationship management and performance management

Establish standard processes for the commercial management of Aviva Canada’s key outsourcing partners, focusing on value delivery, service delivery and exit strategies

Identify and quantify strategic sourcing opportunities and drive them through to execution

Develop and implement Aviva Canada’s IT and non-IT category procurement strategies

Perform a lead commercial role on Aviva Canada’s project portfolio

Ensure a current understanding of market and supplier trends and developments and capitalize on these advising business and functional leaders on strategies to increase benefit

What you'll bring:

University degree or equivalent experience

Professional qualification (PMAC, MCIPS, or equivalent)

10+ years procurement experience in mid-cap or large-cap organizations (of similar size (or greater) to Aviva Canada)

10+ years of management /leadership experience

A successful track record of building, operationalizing and leading procurement teams and functions in mid-cap and/or large-cap organization(s)

10+years of significant technology procurement experience

Extensive material (i.e. $10M+ per annum relationships) commercial outsourcing experience (with a successful track record of performing a key role with vendors in the areas of outsourcing strategy, sourcing, negotiations, vendor management and contract management)

Deep category procurement experience (Demonstrable track record of developing and implementing strategic category management plans for self and reports)

Demonstrated project procurement experience to include significant commercial leadership role(s) in end to end procurement of strategic initiative(s)

Proven ability to engage and influence at the executive level with a focus on delivery and financial results

Good understanding of supply market dynamics, in-country and global suppliers

Must be a strong leader with the ability to develop and engage others in a visions and associated change agenda

Must be passionate about execution

Makes credible fact based recommendations and drives implementation of decisions

Ability to work closely and effectively with SLT, business and function leaders and executives of Aviva Canada

Must have the confidence and credibility to challenge and influence key decision-makers

Change Agent. Must be adaptable to the evolving requirements of the business maintaining a sense of urgency and momentum

Must have strong negotiation skills, procurement process management, outsourcing and SRM skills and experience

A creative problem solver who possesses tremendous honesty and integrity
