Principal Data Analyst Join to apply for the Principal Data Analyst role at Affinity We’re partnering with a world-renowned technology and entertainment company seeking a Principal Data Analyst to play a critical, high-impact role within the Player Experience and Quality organization. This is a rare Expert Individual Contributor role, designed for a senior analytics professional who operates with significant autonomy and strategic responsibility. Rather than managing a team, this role is intended for someone who can define the right questions, shape analytical direction, and influence decision-making at a senior level, while remaining hands‑on with data. The ideal candidate brings deep analytical expertise, strong product intuition, and the ability to connect complex data to business and player experience outcomes. This role is hybrid, based in Vancouver or Montreal (Hybrid 2-3 days per week). Key Responsibilities Act as a strategic analytical thought partner to product, research, and engineering leadership, shaping how data informs decisions across player experience and quality initiatives. Independently frame complex, ambiguous analytical problems and define the most effective approach to drive clarity and impact. Build and maintain high-quality analytical assets — including models, dashboards, and pipelines — with a focus on decision enablement rather than output volume. Translate complex findings into clear, compelling narratives that influence senior stakeholders and guide product and experience strategy. Identify opportunities where analytics can meaningfully shift direction, challenge assumptions, or unlock new insights across products and services. Partner closely with researchers, product managers, and developers to ensure insights are embedded into planning, experimentation, and execution cycles. Contribute to the evolution of analytics best practices, data quality standards, and governance through expertise and influence, not people management. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, or equivalent experience). 8+ years of hands‑on experience in data analytics within gaming, consumer tech, consulting, or other data‑intensive environments. Strong technical foundation in SQL, data modeling, and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker). Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior IC with high autonomy, strong judgment, and strategic influence. Experience working closely with product, engineering, and research teams to drive data‑informed decisions. Solid background in experimentation, statistical analysis, and analytical storytelling. Experience with Python or R is preferred. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence without authority. This is not a manager role. This is a rare Expert IC role. We’re looking for someone who can operate independently at a strategic level, define the right questions, influence senior stakeholders, and connect analytics to business outcomes. The person must be hands‑on but evaluated primarily on judgment, framing, and strategic impact — not volume of dashboards. Affinity Earn Know someone who’s great for this, or any of our open roles?
