Our client, a fast growing licensed commercial general contractor serving large corporations, public agencies, and developers across the Western U.S., specializes in tenant improvements, parking lot upgrades, and site work with a strong emphasis on compliance, professionalism, and reliability, particularly on complex, multi‑site programs and public works projects. As they continue to expand, they are seeking an experienced Superintendent to support their growing portfolio of work, which includes public works contracts, tenant improvements, low‑voltage installations, and flatwork across California and neighboring states. This role is ideal for a hands‑on leader with a strong background in overseeing construction projects, managing on‑site operations, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. Experiencing significant growth, our client is seeking a qualified Superintendent to lead field operations for public works, tenant improvements, low‑voltage installations, and parking lot and flatwork projects. The ideal candidate has experience managing multiple job sites, coordinating subcontractors, enforcing safety protocols, and maintaining detailed daily field reports. Job Title: Superintendent Department: Construction Reports To: Director of Construction FLSA Status: Non‑exempt Salary Range: $40/hour – $55/hr – depending on experience Location: Preferably reside in Southern CA – Traveling position. Additional: Paid travel time and mileage reimbursement (or company vehicle, if applicable) Paid sick leave and holidays (per CA Labor Code) Job Summary: The Superintendent plays a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects, encompassing both interior and exterior improvements. This role is responsible for overseeing field operations on public works, tenant improvement, low voltage, and parking lot/flatwork projects. The Superintendent ensures all work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications and regulatory requirements. The Superintendent manages day‑to‑day on‑site construction activities, coordinates subcontractors, enforces safety standards, maintains detailed field documentation, and serves as a key liaison with clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders. This is a full‑time, hourly (non‑exempt) position that requires regular travel throughout California and the Western U.S., including occasional extended stays for out‑of‑town projects. Major Areas of Responsibility: Manage on‑site construction activities and subcontractor performance Ensure compliance with job specifications, safety regulations, and public works requirements (e.g., prevailing wage, certified payroll) Oversee tenant improvement scopes including interiors, finishes, HVAC coordination, etc. Direct and supervise flatwork and parking lot construction, including grading, paving, striping, and concrete Support installation and coordination of low voltage systems (access control, IT cabling, etc.) Maintain daily logs, field reports, photos, and punch lists using Procore or similar platform Coordinate inspections, deliveries, and resolve field issues promptly Serve as the primary point of contact with clients and field inspectors Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in commercial construction field supervision Experience on public works projects with a clear understanding of prevailing wage rules Background in tenant improvements, flatwork, and site upgrades Familiarity with low voltage scopes and vendor coordination Strong working knowledge of job site safety and CAL/OSHA standards Ability to travel to project sites; valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record Proficiency in field documentation tools (Procore) OSHA 30 Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire) Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential functions satisfactorily. Proficiency in reading and interpreting contracts, blueprints, and technical specifications to ensure accurate execution of construction plans. Experience with construction management software for job costing, scheduling, online collaboration, and estimating. Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability when faced with unexpected project challenges. Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills, particularly under pressure, to resolve unforeseen delays or construction obstacles. Exceptional coordination skills to oversee multiple activities simultaneously while ensuring efficient workflow and resource allocation. Excellent communication and leadership skills to foster collaboration among project owners, managers, designers, inspectors, trade workers, and other stakeholders. Proficiency in reviewing and understanding engineering, architectural, and construction drawings to maintain alignment with project goals. Computer Skills: Demonstrate the ability to use Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe, and other modern connectivity applications (e.g. Zoom, MS Teams) for daily internal communication. Knowledge of Procore is a plus. Language Skills and Mathematical Skills: Demonstrate the ability to read, comprehend, and respond appropriately through written or verbal form; demonstrate tactfulness when communicating, including internal communication with staff members of all levels; ability to communicate with a variety of audiences effectively. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all measure units using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning: Demonstrate the ability to effectively apply common sense and follow through to daily tasks; demonstrate the ability to work with little or no supervision; demonstrate excellent analytical skills; demonstrate the ability to efficiently conduct research and ask appropriate probing questions to complete necessary tasks. Physical Demands: Prolonged standing and walking across uneven terrain, construction sites, and asphalt surfaces. Frequent movement across job sites to supervise activities, inspect work, and coordinate crews. Lifting and carrying materials, tools, and equipment (typically 25‑50 lbs, occasionally up to 75 lbs). Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stairs to inspect building retrofits and elevated structures. Frequently bending, crouching, and kneeling to examine project details, such as EV charger installations, conduit placement, or parking lot grading. Extending arms and reaching overhead to review plans, measure distances, or check installation work. Fine motor skills are required for handling tools, technology (tablets, laptops), and small components. Operating site equipment, moving materials, and assisting with construction‑related tasks when necessary. Working outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, wind). Working around heavy machinery, vehicles, and power tools, necessitating proper PPE. Exposure to loud noise levels from construction machinery, requiring hearing protection. Potential exposure to dust, fumes, and airborne particles from asphalt, concrete, or construction materials. Strong vision (corrected or uncorrected) to read blueprints, identify hazards, and monitor construction progress. Ability to distinguish colors (important for electrical wiring and safety signage). Clear hearing to communicate with crew members and recognize warning signals on‑site. Sensory Demands: The incumbent must spend long hours in intense concentration. The incumbent must also spend long hours on the computer entering information which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. Mental Demands: There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant pressure.
