About the role Samsara’s Safety Firmware organization is responsible for developing and maintaining on-device software for all of our Video-Safety products. Our embedded Linux devices include a broad set of technologies that are responsible for core customer features such as HD video visibility, in-cab driver assistance, AI on the edge, and have a significant impact on the real world. We are looking for a Sr. ML/Edge AI Firmware Engineer to help design and develop edge AI, multimedia, and camera infrastructure that is at the heart of a vast array of camera systems deployed around the world. You will conceive, define, and drive key architectural initiatives across these complex areas. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in Canada. In this role, you will Influence a team of engineers on our Video-Safety products and Vehicle-Gateway, solving complex technical problems, guiding architectural tradeoffs, improving quality, and owning key aspects of our tech stack. Assume ownership in maintaining the production systems managed by your team and provide operational support and supervision when necessary. Participate in roadmap planning sessions, collaborating with cross functional peers to define key areas of our roadmap and the technical direction and priorities for Safety products, including tooling and release infrastructure, automated test strategy. We operate significant AI algorithms on the edge, and you will play a key role ensuring their accuracy and that they run within the constraints of the devices. Partner closely with our Hardware team in defining and building next generation devices that can support the company’s objectives. Mentor other engineers on the team, helping us raise our technical standards. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices. Minimum requirements for the role 6+ years of relevant experience in embedded software development, preferably with a focus on embedded Linux systems. Strong experience in programming with Golang, C/C++, or similar. Proven experience defining and implementing scalable embedded software architecture. Proven experience planning, designing, scoping and delivering complex, multi-team, or cross-system long-term projects, involving external dependencies A desire to mentor and grow engineers of all levels. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with senior executives as well as junior engineers. Commitment to rigorous testing & validation practices. Experience working with teams across multiple disciplines, including but not limited to Product Management, Cloud Software, Machine Learning, and Hardware. An ideal candidate also has Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field. Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Edge Camera Systems, Video Capture, Video Encoding, Embedded AI. Familiarity with a diverse set of quality/testing practices, continuous integration tooling, etc. Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles. For eligible roles, a new hire RSU award may be awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually. We pay for performance, and top performers in eligible roles may receive above-market equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market. The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below.
