As a Default Recovery Legal Specialist , you’ll play a key role in protecting the company’s mortgage portfolio by managing impaired accounts, guiding clients through repayment options, and supporting legal recovery processes. This is a 6 month contract, with high chance of extension/going permanent This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a detail-oriented, high-accountability environment and enjoys balancing analytical work with client interaction. You’ll partner closely with internal legal, finance, and collections teams to minimize risk, maintain compliance, and achieve recovery targets while ensuring fair, transparent client outcomes. Your Responsibilities You’ll manage a portfolio of impaired mortgage accounts, ensuring timely and compliant recovery actions. You’ll conduct financial assessments and negotiate feasible repayment arrangements with clients. You’ll collaborate with legal partners to move files toward resolution, balancing business objectives with client fairness. You’ll maintain accurate and detailed documentation, safeguarding compliance and supporting audit readiness. You’ll proactively monitor account performance, identifying risks and proposing recovery strategies. Skills and Qualifications 3+ years of experience in mortgage collections, legal administration, or default management. Post-secondary education in business, finance, or a related discipline. Strong knowledge of mortgage servicing, default law, and real estate recovery processes. Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and within a team.
