Workplace Type: Onsite About Brucejack Our Brucejack Gold Mine, a high-grade underground mine in beautiful northern British Columbia, is located approximately 65 kilometres north of Stewart. Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. We work closely with local First Nations communities including the Nisga’a, Tahltan, Gitanyow, and Gitxsan, to build respectful partnerships and celebrate our shared community. Your impact As an Engineer in Training, Ventilation , you will support the safe and effective design, planning, and performance of underground ventilation systems at the Brucejack mine, contributing to safe and efficient mine operations. This role is a key part of the Brucejack EIT development pathway, providing hands‑on operational exposure with the opportunity to gain cross‑functional exposure and eventually rotate into other technical disciplines such as Drill & Blast, Mine Planning, and Mine Projects. Through close collaboration with Technical Services and Operations, you will help ensure regulatory compliance, optimize ventilation performance, and contribute to the long‑term success of underground mining activities, while gaining experience that supports future rotation into other technical disciplines. Responsibilities Design and maintain short‑ and long‑term ventilation plans to ensure adequate airflow for current and future mine development. Maintain and update the Ventsim ventilation model, conducting simulations to validate proposed designs and optimize system performance. Provide engineering support to ventilation‑related projects, including the Ventilation Control System (VCS), through contractor coordination, scoping, budgeting, and project tracking. Issue and coordinate execution of ventilation work plans with Mine Operations and construction teams, including fan moves, bulkhead and regulator construction, and ventilation brattice installation; oversee the installation and effectiveness of underground ventilation control devices. Conduct weekly underground ventilation surveys to verify airflow, gas concentrations, and system performance, and prepare reports identifying deficiencies, risks, and required corrective actions. Maintain and update Underground Emergency Escapeway Maps, and provide ventilation support to the Site Response Team (SRT) and Emergency Response Team (ERT) during underground emergencies. Collaborate closely with Technical Services to ensure ventilation requirements are incorporated into mine designs, schedules, ODDs, MDIs, and mine design area reviews, providing technical input and approvals as required. Maintain and manage the underground diesel equipment list and ventilation fan inventory, ensuring accurate airflow requirements, adequate spare capacity, and system redundancy. Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities through research, testing, field measurements, and cross‑functional collaboration, and prepare technical recommendations for ventilation system enhancements. Prepare, submit, and maintain ventilation plans and regulatory documentation in accordance with Ministry of Mines requirements, and routinely develop and update SOPs, SWIs, TARPs, and other governing documents. Prerequisites Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related Engineering discipline. Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC). Foundational understanding of underground mining systems and engineering principles. Competency with Deswik or equivalent mine design software and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Ventsim or similar ventilation software is considered an asset. Previous underground mining or mine planning experience is considered an asset. Knowledge of British Columbia mining and safety legislation is considered an asset. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Willingness and ability to work underground and follow site traffic management and safety requirements.
