Junior Quantitative Developer Vantage Commodities is a trader‑led firm based in Vancouver, currently focused on lumber with plans to expand into diversified commodities. We're a small, focused team that values sharp execution and clear thinking. No corporate bloat—just people who know the business and move quickly. Role Description This position starts with data and ends with you running a trading desk. Here's the path: You’ll join us as we're finishing our order management system and need someone to own the data layer—building out integrations, analytics, and the backend infrastructure that powers everything. While you're doing that, you'll learn lumber: how it trades, how it moves, who the players are. From there, you’ll help us build and operate our hedging platform. Options, futures, risk management—the tools we need to protect and grow our positions. You’ll execute trades, refine the systems, and develop real expertise in commodity derivatives. If you're the right person, this becomes your desk. You’ll trade lumber futures, eventually expand into other commodities, and build a team underneath you. What We're Looking For 0–3 years experience—fresh grads welcome Background in CS, math, physics, statistics, or engineering—finance experience not required You build things that work, not presentations about things that might work Comfortable with messy data, ambiguity, and figuring things out without supervision Curious about markets and trading—you want to learn this business, not just write code for it Python (Pandas, NumPy, FastAPI/Flask), SQL, ETL pipelines, GCP or AWS, React/Streamlit for internal tools, market data What You Get Build software that runs real trading operations—not a side project, the actual system Learn futures trading from experienced traders, with direct P&L participation Ground‑floor role with equity-style upside as we expand into new commodities Small team, no layers, immediate ownership over what you build A real path from developer to trader to desk head To Apply We care about what you've built, not how you format a resume.
