Sessional Lecturer: Song, Lyrics, and Songwriting (CRE272H1S) Toronto, ON, Canada Job Description Victoria College Program: Creativity & Society Position: Sessional Lecturer (1 Position - CUPE 3902, Unit 2) Course: CRE272H1S Song, Lyrics, and Songwriting - A course exploring song and lyrics across various musical genres, reviewing major developments in the repertoire. Topics include the ethics of borrowed forms, instrumentation, collaboration, commercial songwriting standards, music industry aspects, and reception. Students will create compositions and pursue projects related to the field. Musical ability and training are not required. Expected course time: Fridays, 11 am – 1 pm Enrolment cap: 35 Dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026 Course Modality: In-person, Victoria College campus Teaching Assistant: No TA support The salary will follow the CUPE agreement (e.g., September 2023 rate: $9,457.90 including vacation pay). Requirements PhD (strongly preferred), MFA, or other post-graduate degree in relevant fields (e.g., Music, English, History) Expertise in song, lyrics, song culture, music marketplace, creative industries, popular culture, and cultural history, demonstrated through scholarship, publications, and professional experience Strong undergraduate teaching skills, evidenced by experience and evaluations Excellent oral and written communication skills Relevant and adaptable theoretical background to contextualize course materials Application Instructions Submit a single PDF file containing: Cover Letter, CV, and supporting materials (e.g., teaching evaluations, course outline), in that order.
