Sessional Lecturer: Song, Lyrics, and Songwriting (CRE272H1S) Toronto, ON, Canada Job Description Victoria College Program: Creativity & Society Position : Sessional Lecturer (1 Position - CUPE 3902, Unit 2)CRE272H1S Song, Lyrics, and Songwriting - A course exploring song and lyrics in various musical genres, with a review of major developments in the repertoire. Topics addressed could include the ethics of borrowed forms, instrumentation and collaboration, commercial songwriting standards and practices, major aspects of music industries, and reception. Students will have the opportunity to create compositions, and pursue projects related to aspects of the field. Musical ability and training are not required.Expected course time: Fridays, 11 am – 1 pmEnrolment cap: 35Dates of appointment: January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026Course Modality : In-person, Victoria College campusTeaching Assistant: There is no TA supportThe salary will be as per the CUPE agreement (e.g., September 2023 Sessional Lecturer rate is $9,457.90 including vacation pay).Requirements: PhD (strongly preferred), MFA, or other post-graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Music, English, History, etc.) Expertise in song, lyrics, song culture, the music marketplace, creative industries, popular culture, and cultural history along with related issues of diversity and inclusion, as demonstrated by a combination of scholarship, publications, and professional experience within and beyond university contexts Strong skills in undergraduate teaching as shown by previous experience and evaluations Excellent oral and written communication skills A relevant and adaptable theoretical base with which to put the course materials into context Application: You must submit as one PDF file, in the following order: Cover Letter, CV, and any other supporting material, e.g., teaching evaluations, proposed course outlineYour file must follow this naming convention: Your full name – course code application – date of submission. e.g., FirstName Surname – CRE272H1S application – May 15, 2025Closing date for applications: May 20, 2025This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 2 Collective Agreement.
