The Richmond School District is seeking full and part-time elementary educators.
The Provincial Outreach Program for the Early Years (POPEY), hosted by SD38 is hiring Teacher Consultants to provide workshops and in-district supports for educators across BC. POPEY is a Ministry of Education and Child Care Provincial Resource Pgrm with an outreach focus. The main mandate is to increase K-3 educators capacity to support all primary English literacy learners in the classroom. These positions will directly support the MOECC Literacy Initiative Intervention and Outreach to address literacy needs for target populations with a focus on sharing information on evidence based screeners and interventions with districts.
The successful candidates will be experienced teachers with demonstrated competencies in comprehensive K-3 literacy instruction and assessment and will have thorough knowledge and extensive experience in supporting primary aged learners in an inclusive classroom setting. Candidates will be responsible for implementing online and in-person professional development workshops that focus on evidence-based practice in K-3 literacy instruction.
Teacher Consultants must be capable of working both independently and in a collaborative team environment, with POPEY colleagues, as well as district and school based staff. Successful applicants will have demonstrated competencies in collaboration, facilitation and in leading staff development initiatives. The Teacher Consultant will be expected to demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and the maturity and flexibility required to work with adults in a consultative and facilitative manner. This includes creating and delivering interactive and engaging workshops based on current research and the proficient use of technology for leading online workshops.
Successful candidates will be qualified elementary teachers. The candidate will have demonstrated successful teaching at the primary level (K-3) and recent experience (within the last 5 years) in conducting professional development either at the school, district and or organizational levels. Thus, candidates will have thorough knowledge and understanding of educational change, curricular implementation and adult learning, as well as a demonstrated understanding of BC's ELA curriculum and new directions in Assessment, Reporting, and Communicating Student Learning. Candidates will be up to date on the current research and knowledge around how we learn to read, the reading brain and helping teachers implement evidence-based instructional techniques to ensure literacy success for diverse learners.
Provincial travel will be extensive and required as part of this position. Candidates will be expected to present a portfolio that demonstrates the required competencies outlined in this position.
