Clinical Health Information Management Specialist (CHIMS) – Health Records Position Summary Registered Clinical Health Information Management Specialist (CHIMS) – Health Records position wage range: $32.77 to $33.83 per hour. Applicants who begin employment prior to obtaining registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) will be compensated at the uncertified rate of $30.56 to $31.90 per hour until registration is successfully completed. Requirements Active member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association or certification obtained within six months of start date. Preference will be given to fully qualified candidates. Proof of current CPE credits or, for recent graduates (within last 12 months), proof of diploma. Knowledge and use of Folio. Knowledge of Medical Staff Rules & Regulations, Public Hospitals Act, Personal Health Information Privacy Act and other pertinent legislation. For internal candidates, disciplinary and attendance records will be considered. Duties Review health records quantitatively to ascertain that records meet necessary criteria, and report errors and/or omissions. Monitor and maintain a system for charts that are past due and report to Manager; notify physicians that are delinquent in chart completion. Assemble records for permanent filing. Receive, evaluate and respond to correspondence, telephone requests and in-person inquiries regarding release of health records. Attend at court with the health record, under subpoena. Assess information in health records and assign codes according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10CA) and Canadian of Interventions (CCI) and maintain abstracting database. Retrieve patient charts from previous admissions and direct to appropriate floor/unit on admission. Answer telephone, take messages, screen and reroute calls. Assume responsibility for microfilming process. File charts in main department and alternate storage areas. Participate in departmental QA Programs. Other duties as assigned.
