Clinical Health Information Management Specialist (CHIMS) - Health Records Position Summary: Please note that the wage range for the Registered Clinical Health Information Management Specialist (CHIMS) – Health Records position is $32.77 to $33.83 per hour. Applicants who begin employment prior to obtaining registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) will be compensated at the uncertified rate of $30.56 to $31.90 per hour until registration is successfully completed. Requirements Active member in good standing with the Canadian Health Information Management Association or certification obtained within six months of start date. Preference will be given to fully qualified candidates. Must have proof of current CPE credits or be a recent graduate (in the last 12 months) and able to provide proof of diploma. Knowledge and use of Folio. Knowledge of Medical Staff Rules & Regulations, Public Hospitals Act, Personal Health Information Privacy Act and other pertinent legislation. For internal candidates, disciplinary and attendance records will be considered. Duties Reviews health records quantitatively to ascertain that records meet necessary criteria, and reports errors and/or omissions. Monitors and maintains a system for charts that are past due and reports to Manager and notifies physicians that are delinquent in chart completion. Assembles records for permanent filing. Receives, evaluates and responds to correspondence, telephone requests and in-person inquiries regarding release of health records. Attends court with the health record, under subpoena. Assesses information in health records and assigns codes according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10CA) and Canadian Classification of Interventions (CCI) and maintains abstracting data base. Retrieves patient charts from previous admissions and directs to appropriate floor/unit on admission. Answers telephone, takes messages, screens and re‑routes calls. Assumes responsibility for microfilming process. Files charts in main department and alternate storage areas. Participates in departmental QA Programs. Other duties as assigned. Physical Demands Analysis Strength Required rarely – lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling. Mobility Required frequently – prolonged sitting. Required occasionally – standing and walking on hard surfaces. Required rarely – crouching/squatting, climbing, balancing. Dexterity Required often – prolonged fine finger movement. Required frequently – gripping/grasping. Required rarely – reaching.
