If so, the Amazon Supply Chain Optimization organization is for you. Watch this video to learn more about our organization, SCOT: Our vision is to build a real‑time, intelligent and intuitive hands‑off, fully automated system to optimally manage capacity for Amazon’s warehouses, reliably and faster worldwide, prioritizing speed and cost efficiency. We are looking for a manager to help us realize this vision. Optimally managing capacity in Amazon’s increasingly complex network of warehouses and transportation requires innovative approaches in modeling, storing, validating, and processing data for all resources used to fulfill customer packages. We need a candidate who will break down barriers, build smart and scalable systems, and deliver faster and cheaper delivery for customers. Our technical challenges involve optimizing relational and non‑relational data storage and processing systems, scaling to Amazon scale and evolving at Amazon speed. Get ready for SQL and NoSQL databases, distributed systems, MapReduce, complex business logic, and highly‑optimised multithreaded code at the edge of Java capabilities. As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of motivated engineers in design, development, testing, and launch of new features and products. You must have a proven history of building and sustaining highly available services. Key responsibilities Direct management of software engineers, including hiring, promotion, and performance assessments. Work closely with engineers to build large‑scale, highly distributed systems solving complex problems for Amazon’s supply chain business. Review design specs and code, providing feedback to ensure the highest standards in system design and code quality. Partner with product, business, and peer managers to identify new features that bring substantial benefits for customers. Prioritise feature requests to maximise contributions to goals while balancing tactical needs and strategic solutions. Translate business requirements into engineering requirements, scope resources, and manage multiple projects and dependencies to deliver on schedule. Lead sprint planning, stand‑ups, and retrospectives to assign work, monitor progress, and gather feedback. Drive operational excellence by analysing ticket root causes, defects, and technical debt and creating projects to reduce operational load. Qualifications 2+ years of engineering team management experience. 5+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, scaling). 5+ years of leading multi‑tier web services development. Experience partnering with product and program management teams. Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns across the full software/hardware/network development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations. Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe product features, technical designs, and product strategy. Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of software engineers to improve their skills and effectiveness.
