Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) Director of Bands and Instrumental Conducting The Department of Music in the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance, invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The University of Regina is located in the heart of a vibrant, and increasingly diverse, mid-sized city in the centre of the beautiful Canadian prairies on Treaty 4 Territory, the territories of the Nêhiyawak, Anihšinapek, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda peoples, and the traditional homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation, with a presence in Treaty 6. There is an exciting artistic renewal taking place in several of our leading cultural organizations. The Music Department in the Faculty of Media Art and Performance is proud to be a part of that renewal. The Department of Music is a flexible, responsive, and dynamic team of performers and scholars. Faculty members are committed to fostering engagement and collaboration with the variety of professional and community organizations that make up the active music scene and vibrant cultural environment of the City of Regina and Province of Saskatchewan. The successful candidate must hold at least a master’s degree in music and have a proven professional track record as a band director at the post-secondary level. A finished doctorate (DMA, Ph.D., DMus) is preferred. Graduate teaching experience is also an asset. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: selecting repertoire, conducting rehearsals, and providing a variety of performance opportunities for the University of Regina Wind Ensemble and the University of Regina Concert Band; establishing and maintaining local and national recognition and networks as a band conductor; and teaching courses in instrumental conducting. The ability to teach in an applied area, is also an asset. Other teaching responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the Department and the successful candidate’s range of teaching experience and research interests. Candidates will be expected to develop a strong working relationship with local and provincial high school teachers, and to develop a recruitment strategy for the band programme. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to departmental, faculty and University service relative to the position, and be an active member of our university and external community. Knowledge of, and experience with, the Regina and southern Saskatchewan band community is an asset.
