Position Overview ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a General Manager (GM), to be based out of our Prince George, B.

C. location. The successful candidate is an experienced people leader with a proven track record of excellent customer service. The GM will be responsible for all business operations of the metals recycling facility, provide leadership to all yard staff and build lasting, growth-oriented customer relationships in the region.

Responsibilities

Directs supervisors and staff to operate the facility. Oversees environmental, health & safety programs and processes to create a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors. Manages all facility human resources processes including training and performance management. Works with Regional Manager and VP, Canadian Operations to set operating plans for the yard, taking into account: equipment condition; environmental necessities; operational needs; operating costs; profitability.

Proactively identify and pursue new business prospects for ABC and develop existing relationships to achieve growth in volume and market share. Assists in the development of facility standards operating procedures. Measures and reports service and operational data and partners with corporate subject matter experts to enhance key performance measures. Identifies and implements continuous improvement opportunities.

Partners with corporate business development team and with other GMs at other ABC (or partner) locations to expand the company’s customer base and service offerings.

Qualifications

5+ years of management experience leading all aspects of an operations/distribution business including people management and safety. 3+ years’ experience running a profit center-oriented business model. Strong operations background with management experience in heavy equipment operation and repair & maintenance.

Experience

in business development and proven ability to win new customers and accounts. Experienced in implementing continuous improvement and quality assessment programs. Comfortable with using MS Office suite and capable of working with computer software programs. Ability to develop and build relationships both internally and externally to the organization.

Experience

in the scrap metal processing industry is an asset. Degree or diploma in a related post-secondary program is an asset. Excellent collaborator and problem solver. Proven entrepreneurial or business growth acumen.
