Position Overview BDC Capital’s Defence Deep Tech Venture Fund is part of BDC's Defence Platform. It will invest in early‑stage ventures that develop deep technologies transforming business across multiple sectors. The fund will invest exclusively in companies with a defence or dual‑use strategy, and will act as a leader in the Canadian VC ecosystem, connecting stakeholders across the deep tech value chain to leverage non‑dilutive government funding, procurement and tech‑development support. Analysts join one of our teams as early‑career professionals and help evaluate potential deals and manage BDC Capital’s current portfolio. Responsibilities Deal Sourcing Analyze partner‑fund portfolios to identify follow‑on opportunities and track upcoming fund raises. Perform market research and scouting to inform the fund’s strategy, identifying emerging markets, verticals, technologies, or companies. Deal Making Conduct due diligence on market, competition, management, sales, products, cap table and other key areas to assess business value and exit strategies. Manage operational tasks in due diligence such as booking meetings and preparing interview guides. Validate performance metrics, feed valuation models, forecasts and financial pro‑formas. Analyze technical documentation or work with technical consultants to evaluate technologies and services. Assist in reference calls with competitors, clients, industry experts, and present company employees. Conduct routine background checks, KYC and AML. Portfolio Management & Support Monitor portfolio performance, comparing forecasts and models, and relay potential opportunities and issues to management. Participate in investee board meetings as an observer and keep abreast of developments. Assist investees with introductions to potential suppliers, investors and employees. Platform Building Assist in managing the deal pipeline and providing financial analysis for end‑of‑period reports. Support other team members during the investment lifecycle. Ensure all research files and legal documentation adhere to company policies and procedures. Maintain investment files, monitor amendments, disbursements, and conduct financial analysis and forecasting. Requirements Typical Background 1–3 years of experience in structured thinking, financial analysis and technical expertise. Relevant backgrounds: venture capital, private equity, investment banking, accounting, technology startup, industry specialist, consulting, law, corporate strategy, corporate development. Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM). Other degrees are acceptable if analytic skills are strong. Technical Knowledge Strong Excel skills, building financial models with sensitivity analysis and scenario modeling. Proficiency in MS‑suite applications, mainly Word and PowerPoint. Effective presentation skills to executive audiences. Familiarity with coding, chemistry, electronics or other technology skills is an asset. Operational knowledge of a technical industry is an asset. Bilingualism in French and English is an asset. Behavioral Traits Supportive, proactive attitude and willingness to fill gaps. Motivation to work independently while contributing to a team. Collaborative and relationship‑building skills with stakeholders. Eager to learn and receive constructive feedback.
