People like youJob DescriptionWe are currently seeking a Laboratory Technician in a permanent full-time position to join our team of skilled professionals based at our Calgary Plant. This state-of-the-art manufacturing plant produces premium roofing shingles in a high speed, continuous, asphalt shingle manufacturing process environment.Reporting to the Quality Control Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a quality plan to drive continuous improvement in plant performance, and assuring that finished product complies with company, industry and government standards.Beneufb01tsHealth Insurance (includes Virtual Health, and HCSA), Dental Insurance, Vision InsuranceLife Insurance, Long-term Disability, Short-term DisabilityRRSP MatchPaid VacationFloating DaysEmployee Assistance ProgramEmployee Engagement EventsAwards and RecognitionTuition reimbursementService AwardsEmployee Perks & DiscountsJob ResponsibilitiesPerform tests in the Laboratory on key parameters associated with the quality assurance of finished productsMonitors the quality of finished products in Real time, resolves with production team and escalates quality issues on a timely basisMonitors quality impact of new production processes, methods, or equipmentImplements ongoing quality improvement processes and procedures working with interdepartmental teams and with the involvement of the production employeesSupport the development and implementation of a quality plan to drive continuous improvement in plant performanceMeasures quality assurance metrics to opportunities for improvement, progress on goals and accountability for performanceIdentifies, troubleshoots and drives resolution of production quality deficiencies and problemsEscalate quality assurance issues to the Quality team and Plant management on a timely basisEnsures that the Lab equipment is calibrated and in good condition and communicates material and spare requirements in advanceCollates and analyses performance data and charts against defined parametersWorks with shipping to ensure that outgoing products are sorted segregated, isolated and downgraded as per disposition from the quality teamBe able to lift 25lbs. The person may be required to move a bundle of shingles with 60lbs on a trolley, this task is usually done with assistanceQualificationsDiploma or Degree in a Science related field1-3 years of experience in an industrial process manufacturing environment in a quality assurance role with hands-on experience with quality management systems preferredProficient with MS Excel, Word, PowerPointExcellent communication (written, verbal, and presentation) and interpersonal skillsExperience working in a Laboratory environment and calibrating troubleshooting instruments will be an assetAbility to prioritize tasks a fast-paced environment where tests results may be required quicklyCommunication: Ability to interact with Frontline teamsSelf-initiative: Ability to work diligently without supervisionTeam player: Able to help QA/QC supervisor with tasks assigned#LI-DI1Benefits of Employment: IKO recognizes that its success is due to the strength of its employees.
