**PVT LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I**
**Essential Functions of the job**:
- Perform various physical experiments to determine fluid phase behaviour in an oil & gas PVT lab.
- Responsible for the set up and operation of various types of laboratory equipment in order to successfully complete assigned tasks.
- Assist in training and development of lower level technicians in the performance of advanced tests.
- Provide technical expertise, training, and support to other laboratory personnel; dictated by their analytical scope, as required.
- Perform specialized tests and calculations on gas, oil, water and other samples in order to derive accurate data necessary to compile reports concerning sample analysis for distribution to company clients.
- Maintain, calibrate and perform equipment repairs to ensure equipment is functioning in the most efficient and accurate manner possible.
- Perform appropriate quality control guidelines in concert with the QA/QC program that is utilized in the department to assure accurate analytical results.
- Perform other assigned duties to ensure that projects are completed on an accurate and time basis, including organizing the workload to accommodate for the completion of prioritized analysis, and relaying the status of such analyses to laboratory coordinators.
- Room temperature saturation pressures, determine if samples are representative of sampling conditions.
- Condense surface gas samples into high pressure storage cylinders.
- Z measurements on gas samples.
- Single stage separator tests (0 Flash).
- Transfer Proserve/DST tools.
- Paar Densities.
- Live oil viscosity measurements.
- Multi-stage separator tests (X flash).
- Preparation of synthetic gases.
- GOR recombinations (GOR mix).
- Saturation pressure recombinations (Bubble point mix).
- Equipment calibration
**QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS**

**EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE**
- A high school diploma or equivalent required
- 3 to 4 years of related experience and/or training preferred
- Previous experience working with high pressure gases/fluids an advantage.
**LANGUAGE SKILLS**
Ability to read, analyze and interpret instructional and technical materials relating to procedures and safety, and applicable government regulations. Ability to write applicable reports and correspondence clearly. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, schedulers and clients.
**MATHEMATICAL SKILLS**
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and quantities (linear, volumetric, or weight) and to read and interpolate applicable data and tables. Able to draw and interpret applicable graphs and control charts.
**REASONING ABILITY**
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule formats.
**OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
**JOB ASSIGNMENTS**
Laboratory technicians must be ready to accept job assignments at any time, including scheduled days off. Overtime must be worked as required. Attendance at monthly safety meetings is required.
**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Physical Qualifications for Petroleum Laboratory technicians:
- Laboratory Technicians must meet the following physical qualifications.
- Pass the drug and alcohol test specified for safety-sensitive employees.
- Be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea. When such odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs).
