The Volunteer’s Role
 n

As a Machinist Engineer Advisor (CNC), you will provide technical expertise and guidance in the field of machining and engineering, specifically focusing on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines. Your knowledge and experience will be leveraged to enhance the capacity of local technicians and workers, ensuring they can effectively operate and maintain CNC machines. By building local capacity, you will contribute to the development of a skilled workforce and improve economic opportunities in the communities we work in.

As a volunteer, you will:

n
  • n
  • Study sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. n
  • Measure, mark, and describe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining as necessary. n
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required.
    Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures. n
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
    Verify conformance of the finished workpiece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary.
    Set up and operate the machine on a trial run to verify the accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data n
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.
    Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
    Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment, to a like-new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures. n
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that you get along with customers, clients, coworkers and management n
  • Continue to grow, learn knowledge, and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement. n

Essential Requirements:

n
  • n
  • 3 – 8 years of work experience in CNC Lathe Machine, CNC Vertical Milling Machine n
  • 4 – 10 years of work experience in CNC Plasma Cutter and must be able to fabricate different objects n
  • Competent in CNC Lathe and Milling Machines highly needed n
  • Facilitation and training skills; experience in development and delivering workshops n
  • Program delivery experience at a managerial level n
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite program n
  • Competent in software such as AUTO CAD & SOLID WORKS n
  • Experience in project management delivery n

Cuso International will deliver the Sharing Canadian Expertise for Inclusive Development and Gender Equality (SHARE) project, with a contribution from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) over seven years (2020-2027). SHARE aims to improve the economic and/or social well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable people, particularly women and girls, in developing countries, with a view to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. In addition to increasing engagement of Canadians in international development and key global issues, this project will aim to increase the performance of country partners to deliver more inclusive, innovative and environmentally sustainable development initiatives that advance gender equality, in support of the action areas of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.

Cuso International terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle while being effective in your placement. This support package will cover basic living expenses for one volunteer and is not intended to cover home-based expenses (ex. loans, support payments, etc.) or luxury items such as imported items in placement or international personal travel.

  • Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months n

  • Please note that if you are shortlisted for the placement, you will be required to: n
  • Provide two Professional References and one Personal Reference n
  • Complete an oral assessment during your preliminary telephone interview in the language required for your placement n
  • Obtain a Police Check at our request n
  • Complete a full medical exam and be medically cleared by the Cuso International Medical Advisor prior to your departure n
  • Due to the COVID-19 situation, be double vaccinated in accordance with the World Health Organization-approved vaccines n

Fundraising
 

n

We ask each volunteer, regardless of placement length, to raise $2,000. All volunteers receive support from Cuso International to help achieve the goal through fundraising. If the volunteer chooses not to fundraise or is unable to achieve the fundraising goal, he/she can make a one-time donation or become a monthly donor to support our work.

We commit to helping you prepare as best as possible for your placement. You will have an advisor to support you through the process and will receive essential training as part of your preparation. This training is designed to maximize your understanding of your placement and culture, help you identify and plan your own learning, and help you stay safe and healthy during your placement.
