Supervisor, Transit Operations Location: Fort McMurray General Description Under the general direction of leadership this first‑level supervisory position focuses on safety and oversight of transit services. The Supervisor provides direct oversight of Transit Operators, Hostlers, Shelter Maintenance Labourers, and Shelter Maintenance Technicians, delivers customer service to the public, responds to incidents, and performs other duties required to maintain transit service. Responsibilities Employee Development: Oversees transit operations during shifts, verifies that processes and equipment are consistently applied, ensures personnel are trained, certified, and fit for duty, mentors staff, communicates requirements to field personnel, and delivers toolbox talks and safety meetings. Service Delivery: Coordinates and monitors transit operations to guarantee services are safe, efficient, and timely; manages daily service changes, responds to transportation requests and incidents, conducts investigations, prepares daily activity summaries, addresses operator and service complaints, performs foot patrols, schedules operators per collective bargaining provisions, maintains dispatch logs and statistical data, monitors traffic issues, authorizes route changes, and utilizes transit technologies. Departmental Coordination: Ensures compliance with rules, regulations, collective agreements, and policies; completes reports accurately; records service impacts; facilitates employment and disciplinary matters with the assistant manager; coordinates with emergency services as needed; and supports emergency responses from the Regional Emergency Coordination Centre. Skills Requirements Knowledge of transit systems, fare structures, collective agreements, and operational policies. Good knowledge of workplace safety practices and mobility device transportation. Knowledge of radio, telephone equipment and communication procedures. Sound knowledge of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo service area and key landmarks. Strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills. Ability to empower people and manage rapid change. Strong leadership skills and initiative. High level of professionalism and discretion. Excellent verbal and written communication. Practical judgement and independent decision‑making. Knowledge of all transit equipment and processes. Working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office. Ability to maintain effective working relationships. Education High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required). Completed coursework in collision/incident investigation (asset). Valid First AidCPR Certificate (asset). Completion of a defensive driving course (asset). Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. Experience Two (2) years of experience in a public transit operations environment. One (1) year of experience in a leadership role, preferably in a unionized environment (asset). Experience operating heavy equipment (Class 1, 2 or 3) and knowledge of National Safety Code Regulations (asset). Experience in a public sector environment with unionized and non‑unionized employees (asset). Other Requirements Submission of a Criminal Record Check. Valid Class Five (5) Operator’s Licence (required). Valid Class Two (2) driver’s licence with Q endorsement (asset). Willingness to work outside in all conditions. Strong recommendation for immunizations for work in unsanitary conditions. Must be medically and physically able to perform duties continually. Ability to work a rotating shift that includes holidays, evenings/nights, and weekends. Safety The incumbent is responsible for complying with the Health and Safety Directive and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring the safety of employees, contractors, and the public.
