It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project, we are looking for a qualified Environmental Coordinator to join our team. The Environmental Coordinator will report to the Environmental Manager and coordinate the day-to-day implementation of Scarborough Transit Connect's (STC) Environmental Management System (EMS) and ensuring all environmental obligations and commitments are met.

What You Will Do:

Environmental planning and compliance

  • Assist the Environmental Director, Environmental Manager or Environmental Compliance Officer in managing all environmental issues associated with the Project on a day-to-day basis, including overseeing the environmental monitoring and follow-up program in accordance, with the Environmental Reference Documents, Additional Environmental Reports, Applicable Law and any applicable Permits, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements.
  • Chair or assist with the Environmental Working Group meetings with the client and stakeholders.
  • Prepare minutes of meeting for meetings that involve the client or governing bodies.
  • Prepare environmental plans and reports prior to submission to client and stakeholders.
  • Implementing environmental management plans, addressing technical comments, and editing reports.
  • Ensure that environmental issues are addressed, and requirements are met in accordance with the Environmental Reference Documents, Additional Environmental Reports and the Project Agreement.
  • Attend construction meetings to discuss and coordinate issues related to environmental management.
  • Communicate environmental requirements to project staff and subcontractors through maintenance of the environmental orientation and subcontractor kick-off meetings.
  • Support administrative tasks such as subcontractor management, invoice approval, onboarding and descoping of subcontractors.

Environmental Management System

  • Ensure effective operation of the EMS on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of all environmental plans and reports required under the EMS.
  • Ensure effective coordination, tracking and monitoring of environmental metrics in-line with best practice standards.
  • Participate in and support the scheduling and planning of internal/external environmental audits.

Air quality, Noise & Vibration

  • Reviewing weekly construction noise and vibration and air quality management reports.
  • Recommending mitigation measures and responding to inquiries from the client or other internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate relocation or removal of environmental monitoring equipment with the construction team, subcontractors, and the client.
  • Liaise with other environmental specialists/consultants on environmental matters related to design and construction as required.

Experience You Will Bring:

  • 3-5 years of work-related experience on transit projects of similar size, scope, and complexity to the STC Project. Experience in similar industries also acceptable.
  • A degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in environmental sciences, engineering, environmental planning, geography or another related discipline.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental policies, procedures and legislation, as they pertain to air quality, noise and vibration.
  • Familiarized with the Province of Ontario's Transit Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario) would be an asset
  • Experience in successfully managing all Environmental Aspects of transit projects in the Province of Ontario would be an asset.
  • Experience liaising with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of organization.
  • Knowledge of construction documentation management.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI) skills.
  • Knowledge of air dispersion modelling and continuous air quality monitoring for PM2.5, PM10, and Silica is an asset.
  • Experience in Air Quality Sensitive Receptor identification, assessment of impacts, and the identification of mitigation measures;
  • Familiarity with Cadna and noise contours would be an asset.
  • Hands on experience in maintenance environmental equipment on-site, such as but not limited to, Noise and Vibration monitors and Air Quality monitors would be an asset.
  • Candidates must have a valid G class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
