Intermediate Business Analyst

LeverageTek is actively seeking an Intermediate Business Analyst for a 5-month contract with its Ottawa-based customer.
Work Location
The hired candidate will be expected to work Tuesdays onsite at the customer headquarters in Ottawa, ON. Occasional additional onsite meetings may also be required.
Key Tasks
- Responsible for gathering requirements from business units, translating business needs into documentation for IT development and QA teams.
- Help to coordinate large and small IT projects and initiatives.
Business Analysis (80%)
- Analyze and document business processes and workflows
- Partner with business users to fully understand and document requirements
- Conduct interviews with key project stakeholders
- Assist business users and IT leadership in optimizing scope, benefits and risks of proposed projects
- Manage expectations of users and management
- Develop use cases to define functional software needs and user roles
- Works closely with software developers and QA analysts to support traceability from requirements through to QA
- Assist QA in creation of test cases when required
- Assist in defining test plans and testing strategies and in creating test cases
- Assist in the definition of roll out, training and user support plans
- Create and/or review manuals, procedures, and related user documentation; adapts documentation to the appropriate audiences
- Conduct and/or facilitate presentations and process review sessions
Project Management 20%)
- Assists project manager and/or IT manager to develop and manage project schedules
- Analyzes the impact of change requests and help manage the change control process
Key Qualifications
- 3+ years experience as Business Analyst for IT-related projects
- Strong business analysis skills for transforming defined business needs into technical specifications for software development
- Ability to clearly communicate and document business decisions, requirements, workflows, and other needed project documentation
Qualifications
- University degree or College diploma with specialization in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management or related discipline
- Strong interviewing and listening skills to elicit detailed business requirements
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills
- Good knowledge of BA concepts and methodologies
- Good knowledge of project management theory and practice
- Good knowledge of the software design and development life cycle
- Good project management skills which may include developing project plans; managing project stakeholders and the project team; managing communications; managing project risk, scope, and schedule; and managing project conflicts and change requests
- Expert verbal and written communication skills for developing high-quality specifications and documentation Highly developed attention-to-detail
- Ability to manage multiple changing priorities, including under pressure and while working to deadlines
- Demonstrated judgement, initiative, resourcefulness, tact, and discretion
- Conflict resolution skills, tact, diplomacy, maturity, integrity, high level of autonomy.
- Excellent analytical skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and to handle pressure
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Assets
- Knowledge of the Microsoft stack, including Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server an asset
- Business Analyst certification
- PMP certification
