The Northern Alberta Business Incubator (NABI) is a not-for-profit organization supporting small businesses in Northern Alberta for over 30 years. It helps scaling businesses grow through client-focused services, relevant training programs, and flexible workspace solutions. NABI is committed to delivering programs that meet community needs, with a focus on operational efficiency, education, and engagement. NABI is seeking a visionary Executive Director (ED) to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will lead a small team, ensure financial sustainability, expand programs and services, and foster strong partnerships with stakeholders and the broader community. The ED serves as the primary link between staff and the Board, champions community engagement, and promotes an entrepreneurial mindset to support small businesses and a thriving local ecosystem. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain long-term organizational sustainability models. Collaborate with the Board to create strategic business plans and align financial priorities. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and ensure effective financial stewardship. Lead fundraising initiatives, including grants, proposals, and partnership development. Program, Service & Revenue Growth Design, implement, and evolve programs and services that meet stakeholder and community needs. Identify opportunities to increase revenue from NABI’s facilities and services. Conduct environmental scans and provide data-driven recommendations to the Board. Strategic Communications & Community Engagement Represent NABI publicly and act as an ambassador in the community. Build and maintain partnerships with government, industry, and innovation networks. Lead marketing and communications initiatives to enhance NABI’s visibility and impact. Foster a thriving entrepreneurial community through networking, mentorship, and engagement. Operational Excellence & Organizational Effectiveness Ensure operational efficiency, process improvement, and compliance with policies and regulations. Oversee facilities, maintenance, and reserve funds to support long-term sustainability. Lead education initiatives and partnerships in line with NABI’s strategic priorities. Leadership, Governance & People Management Mentor and develop staff to foster a high-performance, collaborative culture. Advise the Board on strategy, operations, and performance using data-informed insights. Ensure clear role definitions and decision‑making frameworks to maintain accountability and alignment. Qualifications Proven executive leadership experience in non‑profit organizations. Strong financial and operational management skills. Experience in community engagement, education, and program development. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Boards, staff, and community members. Knowledge of data‑driven decision‑making and CRM systems. Regularly report to the Board on financial, operational, and programmatic performance. Maintain transparency regarding organizational risks, challenges, and opportunities. Actively participate in Board meetings and strategic planning sessions. Core Values Alignment Commitment to community development and engagement. Uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability.
