Director of Product Design

ABOUT THE JOB:
The Director, Product Design is ultimately responsible for the efficiency of the Product Design team as well as the design of user interfaces, user experience research, and design. As a part of the Product Development team, this position will play an important role in the presentation of the brand by designing efficient, effective and attractive user experiences within the product suite.
What You'll Do:
- Accomplish team results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, and guiding employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
- Indirectly manage a team of Product Managers and Associate Product Managers as well as directly manage the Manager, Product.
- Determine metrics, KPIs and other success indicators; ensure team and individuals are meeting these expectations.
- Establish and demonstrate design team culture and values.
- Set recruitment and hiring standards for design organization.
- Identify and measure design team capacity and skillset needs.
- Manage and demonstrate best practices for end-to-end design processes.
- Work with executives and management to help develop priorities, strategy and roadmap for the organization.
- Define and measure metrics to track user satisfaction both overall and specific to strategic development initiative.
- Correlate design team and user experience KPIs to larger company metrics and KPIs.
- Articulate design vision to the organization, customers, partners, and external parties at a high level.
- Gather competitive, market, and design insight and inform organization strategy and direction.
- Provide focus on clarity on what projects and design problems are most meaningful to address.

What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Arts/Design or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Masters Degree in Arts/Design or related field is preferred.
- 10+ years relevant work experience is required.
- High-level proficiency in visual design such as layout, color, typography and interaction.
- Ability to clearly present and articulate design decisions, participate in peer design critiques, and incorporate feedback into the next iteration.
- Ability to understand and articulate visual design concepts, methodologies, processes and is able to leverage solutions based on project constraints.
- Expert with industry standard design tools for user interface design and prototyping.
- Ability to lead a team of design professionals; strong mentorship abilities.
- Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple high priority projects simultaneously and successfully.
- Ability to execute on work assignments using established design processes.
- Actively seek to understand the usability impact of design solutions in qualitative/quantitative ways.
- Ability to follow defined design guidelines and best practices to ensure consistent and intuitive experiences.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to develop deep empathy with users.
