Manager, Educational & Recreational Programs Full-Time | On-Site | Ronald McDonald House Toronto The Organization Since 1981, Ronald McDonald House Toronto has served as a place to call home for families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment. Ronald McDonald House Toronto encompasses a House for 81 families in downtown Toronto and seven Family Rooms in hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury. The families we serve come from throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world. The Role Reporting to the Chief Program Officer/School Principal, the Manager designs, implements, and continuously improves educational, recreational, and caregiver‑support programming for families staying at Ronald McDonald House Toronto. This year‑round position has a regular schedule from Tuesday to Saturday, with hours ranging from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. to 10 a.m.–6 p.m. depending on the program schedule. Key Responsibilities Include Program Leadership Design, implement, and evaluate educational, recreational, and caregiver‑support programs (in‑house school, seasonal camps, family activities, parent education support & wellness initiatives). Ensure programs are trauma‑informed, inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with Ronald McDonald House’s mission. Lead annual program planning and deliver staff professional development around high‑quality family‑centered care. Maintain compliance with Ministry of Education and Ontario Camps Association standards. Staff Leadership & Supervision Hire, train, supervise, and mentor teachers, counsellors, facilitators, program volunteers, and program staff. Oversee scheduling, coverage, and cross‑program coordination. Participate in the rotating on‑call schedule. Program Administration Manage program budgets, resources, and supplies. Monitor outcomes through data collection, analysis, and reporting. Prepare updates for leadership, donors, and regulatory bodies. Submit mandatory Ministry of Education and Ontario Camps’ Association reporting. Develop and maintain program policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Educational & Behavioral Support Ensure programs accommodate diverse learning, accessibility, and developmental needs. Collaborate with teachers, hospital partners, family services staff, and families to identify individual learning strengths and needs, provide guidance on available supports, and assist with transitions between in‑house schooling and hometown schools. Provide leadership during behavioural or emotional challenges using trauma‑informed approaches. Collaboration & Community Engagement Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure coordinated care and a seamless family experience. Engage with families to assess needs, gather feedback, and promote meaningful participation in programming. Serve as the primary liaison with external partners such as hometown schools, hospital social workers and regulatory agencies (e.g., Ministry of Education). Arrange and oversee annual student placements from colleges and universities to ensure appropriate support in the school/camp. Represent Ronald McDonald House Toronto at community, educational, and sector events. Qualifications Education & Experience A bachelor’s degree in Education is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Registration with the Ontario College of Teachers is preferred. 3–5 years of experience in school/camp management, education, or child/family services, including team‑leading experience. Demonstrated experience designing and managing child‑ and family‑centered programs (camps, programs, curricula). Additional 5 years of background/experience as a teacher, department head, camp counsellor, or program lead/coordinator. Strong experience with classroom management and progressive discipline procedures. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Completion of satisfactory reference check and a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check. Solid leadership and coaching skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop staff and volunteers. Proven knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Curriculum, Ontario Camp Standards, and Education Act and its application. Proven knowledge of special education and IEP development implementation process. Demonstrated ability to support individuals and families in crisis with compassion and professionalism. Excellent interpersonal, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to remain calm and compassionate in high‑stress situations. Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail and follow‑through. Working financial acumen and experience managing departmental/project operating budgets. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data management systems; ability to leverage technology for operational efficiency. CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on‑call as required. The successful candidate will need to undergo a successful reference check, a satisfactory background check and immunization process as per hospital policies.
