Position Details Requisition Title: SIA – PHY347H5S Optics (Lab Demonstrator & Tutorial Leader) Position Type: Lab Demonstrator & Tutorial Leader Course Title: PHY347H5S Optics Course Description: The course will focus on wave optics and introduce students to modern optics and the quantum nature of light. Topics may vary but will include electromagnetic waves and the propagation of light, basic coherence concepts and the interference of light, Fraunhofer and Fresnel diffraction, Fresnel equations, polarization of light, birefringence, blackbody radiation and principles of laser operation. Number of Positions (est): 1 (positions dependent on actual course enrolment, and are not guaranteed) Course Enrolment (est): 15 students Hours of work (est): 56 hours Class schedule: In-person delivery on Thursdays 1 – 4 pm Sessional dates of appointment: January 2026 – April 2026 Salary: CUPE3902 Unit 3 Salaries; rates per collective agreement Closing date: December 15, 2025, 11:59 pm Qualifications M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Physics. Sound knowledge of the course contents is required. Previous TA/SIA experience marking assignments, quizzes, tests, and/or final exam, and working with undergraduate students in Physics tutorial and lab settings is an asset to demonstrate and deliver course content consistently within UofT's standards. Good communication skills are required. Duties Duties will include laboratory demonstrations, leading tutorials, marking laboratory reports, and/or quizzes/assignments. May also include invigilation of term tests and/or final exam.
