Our client in the Financial industry is seeking a Senior Public Affairs Specialist to join their team on a 4 month contract to start with potential to go longer-term. This role will be hybrid, will onsite requirements Downtown Toronto, and is starting ASAP.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating adeptness as a writer and strategist, effectively representing the organization and its executive leadership team to various stakeholders including the media, market participants, and others locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Exhibiting superior writing and editing skills to produce high-quality, technically accurate, and concise media products and corporate communications materials across different platforms and audiences, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of current securities issues, risks, and emerging trends.
  • Proactively anticipating and addressing emerging issues, advising management and executives on innovative strategies, particularly concerning new policy matters demanding creative problem-solving.
  • Providing well-informed strategic counsel to senior staff and subject matter experts on risk mitigation for the organization, offering insightful guidance on stakeholder responses and appropriate communication strategies for a regulatory entity.
  • Monitoring traditional and digital media channels, alongside other online sources, to swiftly identify, analyze, and offer recommendations to Management and Executives on potential risks and opportunities.
  • Managing and responding to media inquiries in alignment with the organizations mandate, while safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the organization within its regulated markets.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to deliver a cohesive approach to communications and public affairs for initiatives requiring a multifaceted communication strategy.


Qualifications:

  • Possessing an undergraduate degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism, or Political Science.
  • Accumulating six to eight years of senior-level experience in media or public affairs roles, involving the development of communication strategies, within either financial services or government/regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrating proven expertise in preparing executives for media engagements, including crafting high-quality positioning documents and background materials.
  • Holding a solid, demonstrable understanding of the Canadian capital markets is a huge asset.
  • Experience within a government or regulatory agency is also preferred.



Note: Due to the nature of the role, availability during non-standard hours may be required.
