Aldea Engineering and Consulting Ltd., a national engineering firm, is seeking a Field Inspector for construction management assignments initially located in Vancouver/Squamish, British Columbia The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years working on major construction projects, in construction or construction management inspection roles. Specific duties are generally described as follows:


  • Construction Inspection – including attending Progress Meetings, developing meeting minutes, submittals reviews, and preparation of weekly and daily inspection reports. Specifically, you will be required to carry out the following tasks:
  • Perform construction inspection assignments or site visits of geotechnical investigations, microtunneling, and tunnel construction/rehabilitation work and attend progress meetings.
  • Preparation of daily inspection reports sufficiently detailed and maintained, including all relevant photographs, and uploaded to electronic project folders.
  • Overseeing the completion of geotechnical investigations in both soil and rock geology.
  • Rock mapping of tunnel and slope condition and geology as needed.
  • Assisting and coordinating all required materials testing under the Consultant's scope, including review of all materials testing to ensure conformance to the Contract Documents
  • Coordinating with all utilities, approval agencies, etc.
  • Assistance with maintaining, updating, and reviewing tracking sheets/logs for Risk Registry, RFIs, RFQs, CCOs, Submittals, Working Days, other issues, etc. and ensuring that relevant documents are provided and dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Assistance with maintaining an up-to-date deficiency log and ensuring all deficiencies are dealt with and/or being dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Providing feedback on construction schedule submissions including narrative reports and two-week look ahead schedules provided by the Contractor.
  • Ensuring that the Contractor is adhering to all requirements of the Contract and enforcing such requirements.
  • Tracking red-line drawings with Contractor and ensuring adequacy of such information being captured.
  • Attending meetings, including progress meetings, risk workshops and scheduling workshops and any other required meetings with utility companies, approval agencies, Client etc. as may be required throughout the course of construction.
  • Follow-up as instructed with all engineering disciplines to review shop drawings, RFIs, and other relevant construction documentation as required.
  • Monitoring health and safety protocols in accordance with the contractor’s health and safety plan. Managing and raising concerns noted by our inspection team if those health and safety protocols are not being adhered to including unsafe work practice, including submission of incident reports.
  • Ability to communicate - technical and non-technical information in a concise, professional manner, including facilitation of technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Technical Writing – proficiency in technical writing including Letters, and Daily Reports.
  • Field based assignments will include weekday, night, and weekend work. Office based assignments will require a standard weekday business hours work schedule.


Minimum Requirements

  • Must be legally eligible for work in Canada and hold a valid Canada Driver’s License.
  • Must be willing to travel to the location specified or willing to relocate prior to starting.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant area of study required
  • Master’s Degree a plus
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience working on tunnel and trenchless projects in Canada, and USA
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and teamwork skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients
  • Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, interact with other staff, collaborate with other disciplines
